Does this suggest the tide is turning on immigration ?

Really? Could have fooled me with the amount of cheap shots you and other posters have taken every time anybody has the audacity to mention any of the negative effects of open borders - of which there are many.
Exactly what I have been wondering - and a point that I have made in the past when comments have been directed at me - from people who know nothing about me.
I most certainly do not........feel free to show me where.
Your argument has now become so weak and ridiculous that you are trying to rescue it by quoting your credentials.
Here comes the bigot word again. You can say you are not calling me as an individual a "bigot" but it's certainly directed my way. As for my arguments being simplistic......I never tried anywhere in this thread to say something revolutionary - I simply pointed out that everything wasn't as it seems in an episode of QT, which turned out to be correct. As for the Met Police stats about the amount of Romanian arrests, if there are 27,000 arrests over 5 years and only a population of 68,000, you don't really need to know an awful lot more to realise there is an issue there, and one which will become more of an issue after Jan 2014. When Bob pointed out that Glynn was incorrect in saying that 30% of Romanians have been found Guilty of crimes, he is right but being pernickety, and the pointless arguments over technicalities that follow were pointless and move away from the point, which was correct in that there is a high proportion of Romanians involved in crime. Don't blame me for this, and stop calling people bigots and racists for mentioning it - these are the figures released by the met compared against the population and it doesn't look good.
This statement, once again - infers that anyone who questions issues surrounding open border immigration has racist tendencies. Well done - nicely worded.0 -
The Mail were a bit slow on the uptake there, especially considering they had one of their own stooges on the panel'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Ha ha!
Interestingly the lady you refer to put her point across forcefully but eloquently - reflected by the rapturous applause she received - somewhat different to the crazy kid in the audience who was really just having a teenage fit.0 -

Yes but she was still a UKIP sympathiser.
The Mail story adds nothing to this matter. If I were a UKIP supporter and witnessed my party being made to look inept and then found the person who instigated it was a Labour activist, I would probably write a letter to the BBC complaining. Obviously UKIP has enough support to muster 90 letters to the BBC.
But the facts remain. Nobody has suggested she got on the programme by false pretences (by not answering truthfully the questions on the standard application form). The issue is, and always has been that UKIP did not like their tactics being exposed.
Those who saw the programme realised she was not saying the candidate was disgusting. She said of UKIP "they are disgusting".
She also said why. Namely that their leaflet (while lierally correct) suggested that all 29m people in Romania and Bulgaria were likely to come to the UK. This was designed to make some of the voters fear an influx of immigrants as if they were all going to leave their countries and all come to the UK. This she said was arguably preying on the vulnerable.
I can recall other occasions when other party panellists have been made to look silly by a question from the audience who turned out to be an activist from another party. Did they whine about it ? No.
If UKIP supporters want to propose that nobody who is politically active should be in the QT audience they should suggest it and not whine because their (quite credible candidate) could not defend a difficult question.
Calling a party disgusting is hardly the most awful of insults ever made in an open meeting. If UKIP is a serious party it needs to understand that not all the questions they will be asked are easy ones tabled in advance.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Interesting.
Are all Brits lazy and fat?
The answer is no. We managed all right before all these immigrants came in. Who built up this country's infrastructure from the war years to what it is today? It wasn't immigrants.
The working classes had really tough working conditions and had to fight every inch of the way for social change. We fought for everything just for people who haven't paid in a penny to come into the country and claim it and send overseas.
Before immigration the roads got swept, toilets cleaned, fruit picked. We had some immigration but not so much that our jobs were affected. Young people could still leave school and get jobs.
British people are the best. We were world leaders in aviation and technology, music and fashion. Fat and lazy is a myth spread by governments who want to encourage mass immigration into this country for their own reasons. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

I agree. And that was my point under the veil of sarcasm.0 -
It wasn't immigrants.
Many people from Eastern Europe settled in this country rather than passing through to the USA. The early 1900's were particularly tough. That's where my family tree originated from. Started life as working class people as well. Difference back then was that people aspired to better themselves. Fundamentally by working hard.0 -

Surely you are not suggesting that immigration is a new phenomenon?
This country has seen much immigration and emigration over the last few centuries and before. I agree that fat and lazy is a myth but to suggest that immigrants played no part in forming Britain is insulting. They came from many nations, were of many faiths and many different ethnicities.
You cannot get more British than Marks and Spencer but it was partly founded by a Polish Jewish immigrant. Many people think Isambard Kingdon Brunel epitomises British Engineering yet his father came here from France. Millions of people - famous and not- have come to the UK from all over the world (a consequence of trying to conquer it ) and have enriched this country.
Of course we have the right to control it and encourage immigrants with relevant skills but please do not try to re-write British History.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
