Putting baby to sleep on tummy

  • so many baby threads get heated - i bottle fed, so you can all start on me now :D

this is the sort of thing you post about in desperation, and find the support you need by pm rather than on-thread. you'll never get people to agree when you're going against the guidelines - i got loads of stick for co-sleeping.

i don't know if this is strictly true but a friend whose baby kept fitting and stopping breathing in her sleep was told that cot death is usually something that happens when baby stops breathing for some reason, whatever triggers them to keep breathing has stopped - she was told that if she uses a monitor and each time her baby stops breathing she gets up and starts him breathing again he should be okay.

if you've got a monitor then i think you can let baby sleep on her tummy if she insists on it.

good luck with whatever you try, and i hope your SPD settles down soon.

I'm not a perfect parent like some on here. I'm just a worn out mother at the end of her tether due to a very difficult pregnancy, a long labour and now a baby who won't sleep, plus other issues that I haven't mentioned.

I haven't got baby blues or any other of the assumptions made about me.

I'm just simply very very tired, still in pain from the SPD and my legs are still badly swollen so I'm not very mobile. I just want to rest but can't do that with a baby who won't settle.

I think it's best just to leave this thread now, and let it drift off into MSE history.
Here I go again on my own....

    HI
I completely empathise with you. My daughter had an unbilical hernia and was incredibly wingey. All the info on hernias is that they don't cause pain and will go away. After 3 months the Dr decided that she was an unusual case and she had her hernia operated on. She was (and still is!)wingey after, but much better.
I have heard that cranial osteopath can help. You must get as much help as possible and don't worry about wearing out your husband. Your body has been through so much and you need rest to recover. We did swaddle our children and put them to sleep on their sides with rolled up blanket in front and behind them. They were both very pukey and under advice decided that it was the best postition. I feel for you with the builders next door. It will get better as I am sure you know.(((HUGS)))I would second a baby monitor for peace of mind - we had one ( must have been one of the first out as my eldest is 14) and it reassured me immensly

Becles, sorry to bring this thread up again but I've just had a brainwave. Have you tried using one of your tops as a blanket? If she likes being held by you to sleep she might be 'fooled' into thinking it's you if she can smell you. Could you also get OH and/or one of your boys to help out when they get home from school for an hour or so so that you can have a rest? Welcome to the world of little girls. I'm afraid theres more wingeing and whining to come as yet.

I know this isn't very MS but I bought this http://www.ambybaby.com/ for my DD and she sleeps a treat now. She too didn't like being on her back and would fall asleep on my chest and wake when half way to the moses basket. I carry her in a wrap during the day and then at night the ride continues :D

I haven't read all the threads so I hope I'm not repeating what others have suggested.

My duaghter always slept on her tummy. This was pre all the cot death scares and they used to say it helped them if they had tummy pains or wind.Personally I would do it again despite all the warnings as she was a fantastic sleeper:o :o

All my girls were tummy sleepers.
