  • I've made a decision :j We're going for the cheapy SolarImmersion. I decided that if I was offered to pay, even £50 for extended warranty, I would turn it down. So why pay extra when the only benefit I can see is extra warranty

We've been looking at remote timers all day. I want one I can access from my phone to turn the heating on or off. DH isn't convinced and I think we'd be getting it more from a convenience point rather than money saving. Although it would mean if we're away at the weekend I can convince DH to turn the heating off & then we can put it back on an hour of so before we get home.

    Have been looking at: http://www.heatmisershop.co.uk/thermostats-c1/wifi-thermostats-c12/230v-or-volt-free-switching-models-c32/heatmiser-prt-ts-wifi-wifi-enabled-programmable-thermostat-p96

I'm certainly digging these Wi-Fi wireless thermostats. Thanks CDTD for that link, knowing when the wife's out and on her shopping jaunts, this basically gives me the green light to turn the heating off from work.....hmmm...now how do I explain it to her that that's a good thing. The mind boggles:D
    2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)
  • I've ordered my solar immersion. Now to decide on the wireless thermostat. Has anyone got any other recommendations? Thanks.

I've found a few more: British Gas do one

This is another, but quite pricey

Honeywell do one, but I can only find stockists in the US :(

We're currently liking the heatmiser one, but I'm debating the Bgas one too....
  • Got panel installation date ..... Friday :j

Is it sad that I'm now saving the laundry to do on Saturday  Hope it's a lovely bright day! If I have lots of generation, I might even be able to tumble dry it :D

Cheers, that's hysterical :rotfl: you're clearly PV'er material!

All the best for Friday, then start chatting on the 'generation' thread.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Not in Scotland I'm afraid but if you check the pvgis website (see the 'sticky' posting about solar FAQs) you ought to get a good idea of expected yield. Most people here seem to report that they usually do slightly better than those forecasts.

Location may not be the problem you think. Obviously rubbish generation in Dec but extra day length in June may prove something of a bonus.

I just put some details for my location into that site and received the following for a 4kw system:

    Fixed system: inclination=35°, orientation=0°
    Month Ed Em Hd Hm
    Jan 3.29 102 1.00 31.1
    Feb 5.84 163 1.78 49.9
    Mar 9.83 305 3.08 95.4
    Apr 13.10 394 4.23 127
    May 14.40 445 4.74 147
    Jun 14.40 431 4.80 144
    Jul 13.50 418 4.55 141
    Aug 11.60 359 3.88 120
    Sep 10.10 302 3.28 98.3
    Oct 6.77 210 2.14 66.2
    Nov 4.02 121 1.23 36.8
    Dec 3.12 96.6 0.94 29.2
    Yearly average 9.17 279 2.98 90.5
    Total for year 3350 1090

Sorry about the formatting, but am I right in thinking that in May/Jun I could generate 14.4 kw for the month? In Dec I could generate 3.12kw for the month?

And for the year, the value would be 3350kw?

    Confused. :(

    Confused. :(

The first number is average daily generation. So for May/June 14.4kWh per day. The second number is expected monthly generation, so for May 445kWh June 431kWh.

Total expected generation for the year 3350kWh.

    Think that's right.
