Ok, an update. I've been torn between the two companies, I got another couple of rough quotes but both were more expensive :(

We've decided to go with the first company. I emailed them a list of questions on Saturday & they responded within a couple of hours :j Obviously, once I've paid they won't be so quick :rotfl:

So, I have all the paperwork here and I'm about to sign away my children's savings  A bit nervous but looking forward to getting them and watching how much we generate.

Thanks for all your help guys

Excellent news CDTD. I am looking forward to my installation next week and hoping snow stays away. May see you on the "My Generation" thread although I have no idea what they are all talking about to be honest.
  • Me too Dreaming :rotfl:

Handed in my forms today & paid the deposit :j

Should be getting installed next Tuesday, but I'm waiting for confirmation.

I've been thinking about adding an export diversion thing on

    http://solarimmersion.co.uk/

Was reading about it on another thread, but not sure what the returns are yet, it seems to be quite a new brand, but significantly cheaper than the other main one. Do you have something similar Jeepjunkie? I saw your name on the other thread, but can't remember if you had one.

    Thanks

I'm going to order the http://solarimmersion.co.uk/ later today when I get back from the vet and shopping :)

It's an easy slot in install for me as all the cables are in place.

ImmerSUN to expensive so at £249 + P&P ot to be worth a punt...
  • Thanks jeepjunkie, I've been recommended the immersun but it's £150 extra fitted. So will take at least an extra two years to pay off I reckon.

I know the solarimmersion only has a one year guarantee, but surely any faults will happen in the first year? Also, even with the immersun's 3 year guarantee it's not going to have paid for itself by then anyway.

Need to make a decision

Hiya CDTD, if it's any help, there is a lengthy discussion on the solarimmersion here:

    http://www.navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php/topic,19242.45.html

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

In an ideal world i'd buy an ImmerSun but am due £107 cashback from Barclays and £155 from Quidco and with my electricity tarrif going up by £120 in May and... the start of Spring I plumped to what I could afford at the time.

The bulk of my spare money goes in to OP'ing the mortage and expensive holidays plus the wife wants a new kitchen with French doors [she's just spent £3.5k on a coloured stove with a sandstone fireplace!, never mind all the stuff daughter wants... The list is endless...

Will keep you posted how I get on...
  • Thanks Mart, I'm sure I saw your link in another discussion and had a look. Ha ha jeepjunkie, my money is always spent 10x over too!

I actually joined this board to join the mortgage free wannabe's, however, got sidetracked by my solar panels & having found out we're expecting baby no. 3 I've almost given up on paying the mortgage off :( Will get there one day ;)

Oh back to my decision.... I could afford the more expensive one, and as we're doing it at the same time as getting the panels it's not much more expensive, however, I'm just not convinced it will pay for itself anytime soon. But then it is only another £150, which is nothing really :o Oh, and I found my EPC from when we moved in which rates us at a C so that will do my FIT's application and save £50 :j That makes the immersun only £100 more expensive....

I feel your pain ;) Thanks to this site its amazing how far you can make money go... LOL!

I just dug out our EPC [3 years old] for this place 'G' !!! With all the EST approved eco-bling we've stuck on it should be an 'A' now :D

    Cheers

Are the panels covered on the house buildings insurance? Just thinking if they blow off or get vandalised (they shouldn't, but if one of the kids throws a stone or something?)

Just asking cos it was something I was asked about today. I'm thinking they will be as part of the buildings insurance as they are fixed to the building & I don't ever remember a question about solar panels.

Printed off my FIT's application, half completed, just need the panel and meter details and it can be posted - woo hoo!!

Oh and I've started looking at smart heating switches! It gets quite addictive!

Bear in mind upcoming smart meters (supposedly 2014-2019 fitted nationwide) with regard to smart heating switch, though I've not seen whether their introduction will stop 'deemed' export.

Whether they are worth it, seems to depend a lot on personal circumstances. Advice will be available here to help you choose I'm sure.
