My daughter signed up for a renewal O2 contract with a phone in the local O2 shop for £26 per month on the 23rd of February. A week later they notified her that as from 28th of February the price is going up over 3%, she hasn't even made the first payment yet can they do this?

It is absolutely clear that O2 have shown on the adverts that the price will increase from that advertised in February.

I agree I wasn't in the shop, but I do know I had seen it plenty of times on the adverts, you or your daughter chose to ignore the not so small print, I was just trying to find an advert to post up.
Besides the price increase from when she signed up is how much?
    3.2% +/- 1 penny.

The increase has been on the cards for quite a while now since early December last year
Theres quite a few threads regarding it such as

It's not just about the money

exactly my point the staff did not tell her there was an increase due less than a week after she signed.
you knew there was a rise due the staff knew my daughter didn't
it's a shame the staff weren't a bit more honest

With due respect Gary, it's a shame you daughter was not a little sharper , and she will need to be as I suspect she wil in future have to sign for other purchasing like mortgages loans etc
Did your energy company tell you that the prices may increase? Did the dealership tell you that VED or fuel prices may increase?
I know for sure that the O2 leaflets and stuff had in the print that the prices were to increase from such n such date .

She could have bought on line but she went into the O2 shop for advice.
    It's called customer service.
What are the staff there for?
The staff quoted her a price knowing that she would have to pay more before the contract kicked off 5 days later not months later.
The other week I was in the coop and the customer in front of me had a bottle of coke the assistant pointed out that this item was on offer Bogof . Thats customer service.

My sister also took out a new contract (her first contract) a couple of weeks ago. It stated clearly on the contract itself that the price was going up on 28th. Check the copy of the contract she signed.

The 3.2% increase is in line with inflation and included in the terms and conditions of the contract which your daughter agreed to.

Can you scan the advert your daughter had seen to entice her into the store?
I'm looking at an advert now, the bottom line shows Subject to status, payment by direct debit and 24 month minimum term, subject to availability, tariff prices may go up. Additional charges may apply for 4G service. Uk data only , T&Cs and FUP apply see o2.co.uk/terms

And in defence to the O2 staff in store, they can only tell you about what the state of play is today.
The co-op store the bogof was there and then, would they have said 'hmm , don't by that today as we are offering them at a reduced promotional cost tomorrow' ?
Your daughter is a woman now with her own mind and soul and descision making ability, the price change is not drastic and perhaps she should have asked the question then if price changes is such a concern :o

But this is a renewal ? She would be aware that the prices were going up on he network as they have been explaining the increase since December. But despite this the signed up? The staff can only advise what the tariff is - yes, it was due to change but if that's the rate when she signed up did she think we would be exempt?

I would be sympathetic if she came from another network and did not know - but she hadn't! This was not a fixed price contract, and the contract stipulates price increases are possible - I agree it would be helpful if they suggested there would be a 5% increase soon, but not a valid reason to cancel.
