When you say remaped do you mean they installed a new ecu and recoded it to work with your car. I think it may be time to get shut tbh.
As far as im aware they rebuilt the ecu, it had pins rusted away. You are right about getting rid of it I only wish I could afford to just scrap it

I'd be very surprised they had rebuilt it,more likely replaced it,but I could be totally wrong.

Ok, First of all you have a very angry and rude attitude, secondly, "Your grow a pair" comment is rude and uncalled for.

For your information, car has been to 2 garages and been seen by a aa mechanic maybe they are all cowboys???
I have also talked to the place that remapped the ecu.
As I have little knowledge of cars I posted on here for advise. I have acted on that advise ie take to differant garage DONE replace coil pack DONE. I dont take advise from rude and arrogant people, just read your posts and see how you come across.
You may have more knowledge and experience than me and other posters but that does not give you the right to be rude. I would take your own advise and not slag people off.

I believe the comments you state are illogical, and irrational, as other have posted later in the thread. I believe you are being taken for a mug. My coment, not knowing your sex, wasn't meant as you found it, but I presume you could illiterate to the comment, as not personal, and as you are female, as it turns out, you have udders, so my coment stands.

I'm not flaming, or being a troll, but other members have stated issues that I raised, and you seem to be ignoring them.

There would be a severe problem of leaking into the ENGINE bay, if the ECU connectors were rusted. Have you proof of that?

WHY would your dashboard need to be taken apart? The ECU doesn't live there?

You ask for help; the garages can't diagnose the fault; I used to make ECU's, and then you abuse me.

Thanks. Scrap the car for all I care.
  • i have rerplaced the ECU in a ka and fiesta there is no chance the dash needs to be removed, only part that needs be removed is possably the glove box (for ease of access) and that peice of trim i show you in the pics. the garages has made extra work for themselfs and charged the privi for it.

the first time round i removed one i had to drop the metal cover out and drill out 3 rivets, if this is what you saw happening to yours then it was its first time removal, it is held in by by 2 clips anyways so it wont miss those rivets holding up the metal cover.

this time round it should be as simple as to just drop the glove box removed kick panel trim, and unclip the ecu itself from its housing.

i fail to see where any of these jobs are a big job.

Thanks, Im hoping to remove the ecu and send it back to be checked.

When it was removed by the garage, they showed it to me before sending it off and although I know nothing about it I could see that in the row of pins two were rusted away.

As far as I have been told, it was remapped, ie rebuilt? I was told this was cheaper than a new one.

If I do take it out does it just unclip or are there screws/plugs etc to remove

    Thanks for your help
  • it should be retained by 2x plastic clip that you can just push outward and the ecu will drop down

Thanks, I am also wondering if it would be possible to get a second hand ecu from a scrapyard, ebay etc. Is this possible? i was led to believe that you could not do this as it had to be coded or something is this right? Im just thinking it may be a quicker way of doing it if its possible.
Ive had a quick look on ebay and there are quite alot on there for around £30.
Im thinking if I can get a secondhand one, take the old one off and fit second hand one it may do the trick? Would it just be a case of clipping it in?
Sorry if this is a stupid question as it may not be possible. As i said I was told you cant do it as each ecu is only for the car it was made for but as the garages seem to be telling me a load of rubbish Im not sure.
I know someone on here has advised getting a ecu kit from scrap yard etc but im not clear on the coding bit or if I could fit it myself or would it have to go to a garage again
  • this is sometimes the problem with ECU's you cant just go and buy one off ebay youll notice the ones on ebay will list the batch code number of the ECU or serial numbers, these have to match the existing ECU in the car you intend to replace or it simply will not work and need a recode.

if you can match the serial or batchcode, youll then notice the kit comes with ignition barrels and door barrels and boot barrel locks and a set of keys this is to keep the immobiliser code to the ECU and allow the car to start and not having to have different set of keys for the ignition and door locks, buying a used kit off ebay you are looking for a short term warranty with it, the locks, a set of keys (2 keys), then youll need a good day to follow a haynes manual and replace the ECU you ignition barrel, your door locks and boot lock, to use the existing keys will require the keys codeing to the ECU, hence why the kit come with keys and barrels as you can just keep the one set of keys.

aslong as the serial numbers match and has the keys and barrel locks you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply. Just trying to work out if its best to send ecu back to have it tested and repaired if nec (They say they will do it at cost price if a repair is needed as just out of warrenty) or get a secondhand one. Its a basic model of van with no central locking so if I used the old key for doors and boot would I just have to replace the ignition bit with a secondhand one?
  • as just out of warrenty
Hmm....How long was the warranty for,12 months? It seems the fault reoccurred within the warranty period. Which company is it,that you would send it back to?
