Am I right?

Am I right? Hubby purchased a pair of trainers for me today in a sports store, once home they did not fit me length or width wise, I returned them to the store within the hour to get a refund.
I was informed it was company policy to only provide an exchange or gift card- I would have been happy to accept a gift card if the sales assistant was not so rude so feel I would prefer to spend my money elsewhere. Am I entitled to a refund?

I think I'm right in saying you are only entitled to a refund if the goods are faulty.

In fact you are both wrong ... the ONLY person with any rights here is Hubby. ;)

However, as this was an in-store purchase then casey is right that the only right for a refund is if they are faulty - anything else is goodwill. Go back (or rather send hubby back) and take the gift card.
  • Let me take a guess. Sports Direct?

They are the worst for this. Ordering online is even worse, you have to email them to get an authorisation for returns and they rarely get back to you.

I avoid them like the plague now, I much prefer to pay a little more for better customer service.

Macymoo, why did you not accept an exchange for things that fitted?

Perhaps suggest to hubby that any future kind purchace gestures are done online, so that way you have the right to return them if they don't fit.

Accept the voucher and buy something else, as it's more than they HAVE to offer you!

The likes of M&S return policy is something that M&S choose to do, not a legal right...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

What? you mean that they stick to the letter of the law more than anybody else? Isn't that a good thing?

Sports Direct perhaps not being the best example for your theory there :P Given that they often adhere to their own policy as if it was the law, with no regard to what the actual law is.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
