[*]Something to identify unfriendly/nervous dogs - our two are walked off lead and do go over to greet other dogs. If I am aware that the other dog is nervous/agressive I can easily stop them doing it. Some kind of jacket, or particular collar perhaps? There is a generally accepted system of coloured ribbons in tails used by horse riders, that would be really useful amongst dog owners.

For this one, the best thing to do is to go by whether the other dog is on a lead or not. I don't let mine approach on lead dogs, but if a dog is off lead I assume it is ok for them to say hello and play. I think that's generally the accepted etiquette among most dog walkers too.

Some way to make sure all dog owners are made aware of this unwritten rule when they get a new dog would be good though OP!

    Broken glass !!

I was a small fortune at the vets because of broken glass in our local park and poor boy wasn't allowed walks for a bit or training :(

Discarded chicken bones are a nightmare round here too, the general detritus of people's nights out are really really annoying first thing on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Don't even get me started on vomit, why do they always want to sample it? smiley-sick007.gif

Chicken bones ? That's an odd one, is there a KFC near you ?
Vomit isn't such a problem here either thankfully. Just glass :(

Most other dog walkers in this area are actually okay, they know him now. It annoys me when people tell me what to feed him though, I know they are only being nice but he is raw fed and i'm usually met with disgust when I tell them so would rather not enter that conversation in the first place lol.

I'm in the city centre with a pizza place, a kebab shop and a fried chicken shop in a row across the road. People stop off on their way home from a night out or eat at the bus stops and then just drop the rubbish.

I think everything I would say has been said. Agree with people having more control over dogs. I know as a human I wouldn't want another person pestering me or scaring me so why should my dog have to put up with it from another dog. I just keep mine on lead and it saddens me that she can never run free without me constantly being at her to stay close just incase . I feel because I have a small dog that am bullied by other people with these big tough dogs because they can defend themselves so its ok for them to be off lead. Though I don't have anything against any dogs at all just bad owners.

Broken glass is a huge concern of mine its everywhere where I live as alot of local pubs (not nice country ones either real rough type). Touch wood dog been ok but it makes walking so much harder when u have to keep pulling dog away from glass.

Dog poo that people don't pick up. Especially on pavement no need for it. Also worry about what these poor dogs being feed because its all light runny poos gross. I actually went sliding in some other day and nearly went flying on my !!!! haha thats how runny it was. I like to monitor my dogs poo (sounds weird) so by picking it up I can tell how smelly and how the texture and form is to see if she ok diet and health wise.

    .

Opposite view here - having a larger dog, I am fed up with small dog owners thinking it is cute when their "little darlings" run up to mine and bite her legs, yap at her etc and the owners think it is ok as they are "only small" and "oh he thinks he is a rottie" blah blah blah - while I am trying to hold on to my 40 kg dog on her lead and the small dog owner is miles away and walking towards us all laughing as "he is so brave".... grrr

But yes, it is not poor dog's fault - it is stupid owners every single time

And yes, chicken bones and other food leftovers after idiots having a picnic on Wanstead Flats or Wanstead Park. They bring their food in bags - why not take their rubbish back with them in the same bags?

Poo picked up and then left in the plastic bag on the grass or hung on a tree/bush (!!!).

Stupid thin extendable leads that wrap around me or my dog when the little darling runs around us - THOSE leads should be banned, they are so dangerous.

I think a lot of dogs these days just aren't socialised properly as puppies.

Most dogs, if they are, will be absolutely fine interacting off lead with other dogs of any size. It makes me sad to see dogs who are clearly dying to meet and greet others being stopped by nervous or over-protective owners. Its an absolute joy to see mine making new friends and running around happily in an impromptu 'pack' at the park.

Banned because of a few people too stupid to use them properly? Bit harsh, I love my extending leads!
