If you bought a new car to keep, I would change the oil every 12 months or 12k miles - disregard what the service book says about long intervals, the manufacturers don't care if it fails after a few years.
This is the problem with buying ex Motabilty cars, everyone raves about them, but this one for instance has only been 'looked at' in 3 years and most are low mileage done in a series of short journeys, a recipe for future disaster.
Ours has a knock from the front strut, Ford say that its not leaking, Motabilty say that its going to be replaced in the next few months - so leave it for the next owner.
(I have to say that its not dangerous nor an MOT failure - just annoying).
I've had to come back on to thank both Motabilty and Gordon Ford Bolton.
Two weeks after the faultly strut knock diagnosis, Gordon Ford have just phoned to say that the new strut has arrived so 'come on down'.:)
Even though Ford initially said no - maybe they read MSE.;)0
