oh no tatty what has happened ?
The guttering has started to collapse and whoever stopped using the water tank (prior to us buying the house) didn't think to empty it and it was never checked-we just thought it would have been done- now the tank has leaked in the loft and the wood underneath is soaked. So we need new guttering and roof repairs and plumber coming out tomorrow to sort tank out- and hopefully remove it-so our mortgage plans will need to be put on hold until everything Is sorted out.
I phoned mortgage lenders to see if we can borrow back over payments and they have said we can have a payment break for a few months as opposed to borrowing it back. So it's less than ideal but we can't put off the repairs. :eek:GE 36 *MFD may 2043

So the new plan is to take a payment break (and hopefully find a way to raise the money we need for the repairs) and then treat it like a cheap loan and pay the overpayments back ASAP.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

To be honest, it' s not an option we have considered up to press- we don't have any credit cards.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Virgin and Barclay card are chucking money at people ... Between the two I was offered £12k 0% with a transfer fee
I spose I could use it for son .. But I don't want to get back into debt again0 -
So we need a way to actually MAKE some money not just borrow it all and then eat orange wrapper food till we pay it back.
Ok. I shall put thinking cap on.
over a year it works out at
£583 a month to make or pay back.
yikes.
ok.......how much for our kidneys?
No seriously I will think on it some more.

El have you thought about saying 'no' to son? You have enough concerns of your own without adding to them. Can he not get a graduate loan to fund his studies? That's what my DD had to do. I know you want to help your son but you'd be doing that by giving him a roof over his head. The bank of El is seriously credit-crunched already - I'm guessing he doesn't know your problems (money and work wise) other he wouldn't be asking - maybe time for a long conversation as I'm sure he wouldn't want to add to your pressures?
Sorry if you think I'm speaking out of turn.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Morning El, spooky that GG posted and I'm along with the same message. It's blinking hard as a parent, but if you provide a roof over his head to help reduce his outgoings, then I would encourage him to eb@y, car boot, survey etc plus apply for a study loan so that he achieves this himself.
Whilst I don't doubt he would pay it back, he will value his achievement far more if he funds it himself. That's a gift that you can give him.
GG recommended the Millionaire next door book, have a look as it covers off supporting kids financially.
Hopefully you will know that I'm supporting you with this message, not wanting to cause you angst/upset
