It is always useful to share tips on hobbies.Like you say, crafting can be expensive if you do not know where to get the best deals.
Did you get your new sewing machine by the way?
  • At this rate this will end up being a crafters thread in itself! :D
*waves hello to duckfeet* Don't feel intimidated lovely. For every pillock on here there is another lovely person!

Mods? Please can you give us some feedback on this idea? It looks popular.

I would happily be a board guide for it if it helps.

Go on! We crafty types would live you forever!

    Bump.

It's all well and good having a feedback forum but if you don't bother to feed back on the feedback then what is the point?!?

I would wholeheartedly endorse the idea of a new forum for art and craft - making and mending or something similar.

I actually requested this several years ago - just found the old thread from 2008!
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1178937

At the time I was sent a PM from MSE saying that craft things should be posted in the special occassions thread - whilst this might be logical for certain items that you are making to give as gifts, it is not the right place for things to do with making and mending for your own home or family. This means that 'make and mend' stuff is scattered all over the place at the moment and is very hard to find and also hard to reach the right audience when you post.

If you search for the word 'craft' in this forum you will see lots of requests over the years for something similar - all have been ignored!

MSE - please take note this time. Making things from scratch is a fundamental principle of moneysaving and should be welcomed, highlighted and endorsed!

OK - so now we have a new board on gaming - even though I don't recall reading any request for one, so please can you MSE people take this request for an 'Arts and Crafts' board seriously?

We are not talking old-style make do a mend here (which might be better off in the old-style board), but inspirational make it yourself projects.

At least a response from MSE would be nice.

If it is put in old style, these threads would turn stale in no time like its recipe threads and become history because no one would want their contributions and follow-ups to be added to old 1001 page long tedious threads that no one visits; arts and crafts subboard does have a potential but it would have no life on old style board. I think it should be left alone on the special occasions board (I am guessing it is safely run on a different board, I haven't been on it).

Sorry, but I think you are missing the point here. There are arts and crafts threads on the special occassions board, and it is true that arts and crafts might occassionally be associated with special occassions - if something is being made for a gift, but that misses 90% of what it is about. Myself and many other crafters like to make things for our homes and ourselves and maybe also to sell.

We need a dedicated BOARD - not a thread.
  • Hi!

Sorry for not replying before, it does look like this could be popular enough for its own board now.

We can never promise in case something else comes up but we're hoping to set it up next week.

    Andrea :)

I see. I might have missed the point. However I wasn't speaking about a thread either. I was only suggesting that even on a subboard on old style, it would all be merged into similar threads before it gets audiance/viewing.

Also it would largely depend on which view you take. As a crafter, they would perhaps look for a board exclusive to arts and crafts; as someone looking for bargains for purchases of arts and crafts materials/items for occasions and savings (which is what this board is primarily about) they would presumably be looking at special occasions board, which is why I believe it has to be a subboard where everyone, both crafters and bargain hunters visit at some point although I'm not sure of a need. That said it is better to have subboards than merge threads and lose character (and followers) as it is happening on old style board, well that's my perception.

ps: sorry I hadn't seen MSE Andrea's post.
