    Hi Folks,

So Im trying to bring lunches to work everyday so my dilemma is...

I took some frozen king prawns out the freezer last night but forgot to take them for lunch today... They have been in the fridge since then, so will they be OK to have in my salad tomorrow? I really dont want to waste them either by chucking them away or by chucking them up ha ha. Any advice?

    Cheers

I've only just seen this post, but I'm also trying to stop buying expensive, rather tasteless supermarket sandwiches! My favorite dinners at the moment are asda value soups (they are really nice I will never pay heinz prices again) I've also encouraged another girl at work to get involved so we take turns and share a tin of hot dogs or take in meat and make our own sandwiches. My locker at work is now stuffed with back up meals of soup, noodles, cereal, porridge, etc!

    Evening :D

I am going to try a new filling for my frozen sandwiches this week. Tuna, onion, lemon juice and basil.

I have a packet of ham too, so I will do 2 ham and cheese and 2 tuna and onion.

The week after I will have muffins instead of bread and take an egg and a slice of plastic cheese and have an egg muffin each day. The egg cooks really quickly in the microwave and if I cook it in a small round tupperware pot, it is also muffin sized and shaped :D:D:D

I find taking home made soup to work on a cold day good. Really warms you up at lunch time much better than crap from any canteen.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Hi Folks

I'm not in on this challenge but have actually been taking my own lunch to work for 9 yrs, and have converted many workmates to my way of thinking - they are so shocked when they see how much they save, and also how salty ready made sarnies are etc.

I literally could not go back to buying lunch out (v rarely - like once every 4mths if I have stayed at a friends - I treat myself to an M&S sarnie).

My top tips for winter are:
    - spend a day making a selection of soups and then portion/bag them up and freeze them - remember you can use veg that are near their end of life and also left over chicken etc for this.
    - spend a day making a selection of pasta bakes and portion/bag and freeze them. I include a selection of veg and also sometimes pancetta cubes.

If you make different variations of the above and just take them out the freezer the night before then it is a great way to not have to think/stress out about what to eat as you always have something in the freezer to pull out.

For snacks I also take cereal bars, fruit, and have a drawer stock of instant hot choc and cuppa soup.

After 9 yrs of doing this I don't even need to think about it, it is just second nature.

Good luck with your challenge everyone, it is a fab way of saving money. :)

Having spent almost every waking moment this weekend with my sister at our dad's old house clearing out and decorating, I got home at 9pm lastnight and remembered to boil up some eggs for this weeks lunches. Unfortunately at 7:20am this morning I realised the cooled eggs were still lying in the bottom of the saucepan!

However, once I'd showered, dressed & fed my pet lizard (that is dressed myself not the lizard), I risked being late for work by preparing the egg mayo filling for todays sandwiches! Despite setting off 10 mins later than usual, quiet roads and green lights meant I still made it to work at the usual time and I'm on a high at having made my own lunch instead of taking the easy/lazy option (Subway!). ;)

Only 3 more lunches to go for me this month & it looks like everyone else has been doing really well with their LTW days too!

Day 1 of March-ing and Munching....I don't think I've brought enough food with me as I'm hungry and dying to buy a chocolate bar from the canteen. But I'm determined to save money.

I brought in a tin of Cross and Blackwell Mushroom soup which was £0.50 from ASDA last week (and very yummy also), and 4 slices of white bread. I also had a banana and a Mugshot

I think tonight I'm going to make a huge tub of tuna, pasta and mayonnaise; got all 3 key ingredients so may as well.

Got £1.06 left of my weekly budget, of which I'm going to hunt out the bargains at my local ASDA tonight; I need vege for the bunnies and the other week I got different items they can have for £0.10 each so I'm hoping for much of the same tonight, plus some fruit for me if I'm lucky.
