Thanks for that,I was wondering if it was worth putting my wheat bag in the freezer.

I've been freezing a hot water bottle. This is great as the thick rubber seems to insulate it pretty well and it takes ages to melt.Great for the evenings if your feet are hot.Or, put it between your legs :D bliss.

Other tips from my years in Spain.

Keep all windows and curtains closed (keep the heat out) - only open them when there is plenty of shade and the air temperature has reduced.

Use an electric fan to keep the air moving around you.

In the evening open all doors and windows and allow any draft to cool the house.

Have cool not hot or cold showers/baths.

If you get overheated wrap a damp towel around you.

Run your wrists and hands under the cold tap.

Soak your feet in a bowl of cold water.

Drink water not tea or coffee.

If your not eating properly and begin to feel faint sip cola, lemonade or even water sweetened with a little sugar.

    Keep out of the sun!!!

instead of buying these so called cooling sprays....i have a a misting spray in the fridge with water... its so lovely and cold.......its ideal as well for misting the dog as well.....also i keep a pack of travel wipes in the freezer, so when we have to go out.... just put the wet wipes in a bag.....and the wipes will be nice and cold.........

If you haven't got a wheat bag, a cold damp towel is just as effective. Soak a small hand towel under the cold tap, wring out & just drape around your neck. Even better is leaving it in the fridge for an hour first.

My 3 year old hasn't been too well this week. I just managed to get him outside Laura Ashley on Sunday before he vomited. He has had trouble sleeping with the heat etc so my husband has been putting a damp flannel on his head as his mum used to do it for them when they were younger. I was surprised as it really did work and it helped him go to sleep.
The old ones are the best.

I am recalling this from memory, so I may have one or two words wrong:

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun
    The Japanese wouldn't care to
    The Chinese wouldn't dare to
Hindoos and Argentines sleep soundly from 12 till 1
But mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun

There is a lot of truth in this. I have worked with a lot of Indians and Africans, and if the sun came out, they would close the office curtains, and if they sit outside they sit in the shade under a tree etc.

If you are in your house, try opening the trapdoor to the loft.

A sponge soaked in cold water is very refreshing.
To buy or not to buy, need not be in question

Ok am in desperate need of some help

Financially we are ok but cannot afford unnecessary splurges etc - and ive just brought a doggy gate! doh! Basically a big child gate i can put in the front door so i can keep the front door open to air the hallway where the dog sleeps without him shootign off into the road!

Anyway whilst at the shop earlier i noticed the 80 degrees to come headline - aaarrrgggghhh!!!!! I DO NOT do well with the heat at all adn with only one fan in my whole 2 bed flat this spring/summer isnt looking very fun.

So I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to stay cool, keep cool, help animals keep cool etc with the up and coming hot season ahead of us.
