Many would say I'm mad for spending £1,500 just for a good night's sleep and the peace of mind that no matter how hot it gets, I can retire to the bedroom and chill out.

I don't think your mad. I have portable units upstairs and downstairs set at 16 degrees. My only regret is that we didn't have air con installed along with the central heating.

    Morning! (Just)

What are you're best ways of managing in this heat? I'm in an air conditioned office 2 days a week, but the rest of the week I either work from home or not work and have the children (2 & 4).

We don't have an awful lot of shade in our garden - a parasol but the littlies rarely stay still for long. I think my youngest is struggling the most.

So, I'm keeping them indoors during the midday heat, minimal clothing, bare feet, follow them round with drinks etc. I'm barefoot too, this is the woman who always wears slippers indoors!

So, how are you coping with your usual day to day activities in the heat?

As an aside, was just reading one news page that said a 4wk old baby had been admitted to hospital with sunburn in Sussex

Much the same as you, got front windows open and back door to get some breeze through, keeping my bedroom curtains closed and window open. Eating ice pops and drinking flavoured water.

I heard about that baby :( Same happened last year on a beach if you remember.
    1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
    10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
    50p: Christmas presents £3.50
    £2: holidays £2.00

It doesn't mean that the baby was left in the full sun. It only takes a few minutes for an infant to be burned, especially for those who are sensitive or allergic to the sun. All it takes is for a baby to flop its arm outside the shaded pushchair or for someone to knock the umbrella out of position or something. :)

One good way for littlies to stay cool (& grown ups too!) is to soak tshirt/hat etc in cold water, wring it out & put it on.

When it's dry it's time to do it again.

Still with sunscreen, drinks etc of course.

I've added your post to our existing thread on the same subject, where hopefully you'll find lots of advice.

I dampened a piece of kitchen towel and lay it on my neck and wiped my arms over periodically when I was at work today. It helped a lot.
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

Curtain pole installed in the living room
    Paint curtain pole
Window quilts for landing window & french door
Add shrink film to the kitchen door & insulate
    Insulate front door
Bubble wrap windows & french door
    Wash front door curtain
    Blind for the bathroom
Find wrist warmers & the wool socks!
    Wash heated throws
    Wash duvet & wool blankets
Buy vest tops to go under clothes and PJs
Buy nets for bathroom and kitchen
Buy or make blind for kitchen

I keep a pack of value babywipes in the fridge, and wipe myself over with them every so often. Its quite refreshing.
