Who's the breadwinner in your household?

Seems more and more women are taking this title and so I wonder if any posters here are and how you manage?

I'm a female breadwinner. I earn peanuts but I'm single!

    I am. And I'm female :)

Dh has been in and out of jobs our whole relationship, currently at college. I've always earned a steady wage, took charge of all the bills etc.

Atm we have my wage only to live on. I make sure all the bills are paid, check the bank almost daily to make sure we are on track. I have two accounts, I have a card for one and DH has the card for the other one. I would hate for him to feel less of a man for using 'my' money, so I make sure he knows how much we have and what's spare (if any) so he can buy things without asking me for money.

Might not work for some, but it works for us x
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • I (female) have always been the higher earner in our relationship. Especially since my OH decided to go back to studying and has had a PT job for the last 5 yrs.
He is about to qualify as an accountant so he will take over shortly and I will get a rest!! :-)

It's never been down to one person to 'win the bread' in our house.

At various times my husband has earned more, at other times I've earned more, and at other times we've earned around the same.

All our money has always gone in to a joint account, so it has never been a sole responsibility to earn money. We've always been joint breadwinners.

It's never been an issue or a problem.

we dont have a bread winner as we dont concern ourselves with financial stuff to much, everything we get goes into a pot and everything we pay comes out of it , its been that way for 13 years now and works very well for us , finances are the cause of a lot of arguements and discontent in relationships and at the end of the day its only money , there are far more important things in life than who earns what !

TBH, I think it's an old fashioned term - DH has generally had the higher income in our household, but the bills are paid by both of us.

When it comes to housekeeping however, I do the shopping and DH couldn't tell you how much a pint of milk or loaf of bread costs.

Husband currently brings in more, I work part-time.

I earned more than him prior to having the children and going part-time - but my career has largely remained static in the last 5 years, whilst he has continued to climb the career ladder, and as a result his fte salary is now higher than mine, although not by a great deal.

Either of us could afford to fully support the household on our single salary, so we're in a fairly comfortable position.

Husband earns the money, but in order for him to get to the level of salary he is on, he has had to work long hours and travel including working away overnight. He could not afford how much childcare would cost for those sort of hours out of his net salary, so it's a joint event. I have paid temping work which pays for 'extras' into the household.
