Parkingeye and ludicrous parking charge notice

We have just moved house and having been shopping lot at our local BM store in Belper. Two weeks we got a letter from parking eye with their photo evidence saying that as we had stayed longer than 90 minutes in the car park we were had to pay a £100 fine. It did ask for documentary evidence to show that were were "legally"parked. So we sent out receipt that clearly shows from the time stamp that we had been shopping at BM. we left the car park five minutes after checking out. we sent a copy of our receipt with a covering letter to PE and presumed that the matter was closed. However this morning another letter from PE arrived saying"you have provided evidence of purchase. however please be advised that this does not meet the discretionary criteria set by the landowner in this case"
what nonsense. what is this discretionary criteria and dont BM want customers to shop there for over 90 minutes?
The letter then says "in order or PE to cancel this parking charge, we will need valid evidence indicating that you did not break the terms and conditions stipulated on the signage"
what does that drivel mean. we are not paying this. first they ask for a receipt to prove why were there and then when we have that ask for further evidence without stipulating what evidence they require.
this is extortion pure and simple.
Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Simple - ignore Parking Eye, it is a scam. Read a few of the hundreds of threads on here about them and you will see what I mean.

However you should complain most strongly to the head office of the store and tell them why you will not be shopping there again.
  • You sum it up perfectly, Drivel. Ignore the pillocks as they are trying it on. You will get further begging/threatening letters but just file them away and tick off the letters from the letter chain on the stickies. As you have appealed you could go to popla (depends how stroppy you feel)to cost them some money assuming they have given you the reference number. If they have not given you a number then you could tell them to give you the number or go away. Some are stopping at this point as they don't want to pay £32 quid to someone who intends to fight.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

One of Parking Spy's tricks is to record the first entry and the last exit!

However whatever they think you have done appeal to Popla cost em, then ignore the rest of the drivel!
  • As Roger says, complain to Store head office and local management. In my case they overturned the Parking Eye charge but as importantly is to let them know the weight of ublic opinion on the scammers.
I wouldnt waste any energy communicating with Parking Eye

Or wait 35 days from the date of your first appeal and then write back stating that as they have not processed your appeal within the 35 days allowed you now consider the matter closed

We had the similar response that our £12 spend was not enough, the feeling is £30 is the limit required. If this is the case the margin on this is likely to be around £10 so how does that make the £60 fine a genuine estimate of the loss.
  • I think it would be a very good idea to put a strong complaint into the store manager and also the head office.
The more complaints they get might make them think before giving parking eye the contract again.
Parking Eye have been kicked off a few car parks recently.

The killer arrow is the planning permission and rateable value of the car park.
They claim free parking, yet they want to charge £90.
A few complaints to the councillors as to why they are lying to obtain lower rates when the council is skint puts the cat in the pigeons .
    Be happy...;)

We spent £75 on the day we got "fined"
Thanks to everyone for the replies. We have never had any intention to pay. I have left reviews on local websites re this and also contacted the editor of the local paper to see if they will run the story. people need to be warned. We have our own business in Belper so we know a few local businessmen in the area. I really abhor this type of extortion and exploitation
