one last question, i promise.. i've run the windirstat, took 5 hours to complete, it show most of my space is taken up by (navy Blue) JScript Script File 24.1GB, the next biggest is (red) Application Extention 13.7GB, Is it safe to delete these and is there an easy way of doing it from the windirstat report ? Any help would be great x
Windirstat has a window which shows which folder or directory these files are in. Top left.
If you click on the JScript or App Ext in the top right window, those files will be highlighted in the coloured window. If you click on the files in the coloured window, they'll be highlighted in the folder/directory window top left.
Don't go deleting app extns.
What's the file extension of the Jscripts? From top right window0 -

Do i need to do anything with it ? Thanks again x0 -
do the chkdsk, ccleaner, and suggestions in post 34 first.
your disk operations shouldn't be taking so long!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
If it was Windows XP and it had been running for any length of time with such a full disk, I'd definitely suggest running the disk defragmenter. I had a very full disk which got badly fragmented as a result, and this especially hurt the pagefile and hence performance. Defragmenting made a big difference.
Normally running a manual disk defrag wouldn't make any difference but if it's been full for any length of time, the automatic one will have struggled to keep it in order.
I don't know so much about Vista though. Does the Vista Disk Defragmenter allow you to "Analyse" the fragmentation without actually defragmenting? Does it give a percentage fragmented? Notice that a full defrag might take ages so don't run that just yet.0
