    Hi,

what are you doing with CCleaner, doesn't usually take long?

It's still running, has been going for abount an hour now, something to do with flicking through the temporary internet files ?

    This is getting worrying.

OTOH we're talking about a laptop with a 100gig hard drive, so it's probably about 10 years old and fragmented to death.

It's about 5 year old, just a packard Bell EasyNote, not sure how big the hard drive is ?

I would recommend formatting and doing a fresh install of Windows. When was the last time it had a fresh install? Windows is notorious for getting clogged up.

While it's true that a Windows reinstall can be helpful, it's a big step and I think the OP will still see a big performance increase just by making space on the drive and a few other tweaks.

1% space really isn't enough and as mentioned above, things like the pagefile getting fragmented can really hit performance.
  • Thanks for all your help tonight, i've had to stop the CCleaner as needing to go to bed but it's freed up 10GB of space !!, i'm going to do it agin tommorow to try and free up some more space.

I'm not sure i'd know how to do a fresh install of Windows, i've also reset my settings to automatically delete temporary files on access so hopefully should help.

Thanks again for all your help x

    Don't.

With 10Gb free you have ample space to install WinDirStat and see what's REALLY hogging your space.

    Do this first.
