You could start by running CCleaner. It's pretty easy and should see big gains if your laptop hasn't seen any maintenance or tidying for many years.
Be careful with its default settings though. By default it will delete your browser history and cookies. The latter is often a problem as cookies include saved logins for websites such as this one. The other defaults are safe, however.0 -

You have the holiday photos stored somewhere else as well, though?
Go into the settings or options of your Internet browser, and find the option to delete Temporary Internet Files. Do this.
Look in the My Documents folder. Switch the View to Details, and sort the files by Size, with the largest first. What are the largest? If you know what they are, and you know you don't need them, delete them and Clear the Recycle Bin.
Once you have enough space to do so, download WinDirStat- run it, and it will give a you a visual on what's on your drive. From this you can establish exactly what's eating your space. It will classify EVERYTHING by file type, so you can determine which file types you know, which you don't, which ones you know you created, and which not.0 -

Thank you, yes i've moved my photos onto a disk, i've done the delete temporay internet files.
In my documents folder the 3 largest seem to be :-
REHDVCPL (4592KB) - i think this is to do with HD Audio Control Panel Realtek Semi-conductor
Windows Explorer -(2858KB)
Windows Update - (1270KB)
In my Drives there are some large MB it says :-
TOUCHPAD
WLAN

Hi,
if you right click your C drive > properties > disc cleanup > my files/all files, it'll give you and idea of things.
Click on each item for a description, then tick box to delete.0 -
Do you delete or store your letters/correspondence elsewhere?0

Hi,
what are you doing with CCleaner, doesn't usually take long?0 -
This is getting worrying.
OTOH we're talking about a laptop with a 100gig hard drive, so it's probably about 10 years old and fragmented to death.0
