  • this was the email regards service withdrawal I received from virgin

    Hi The Madmouse,

Thanks for your email to Virgin Mobile about our TV service.

We tried to call you today but sadly we couldn't get through to you on your mobile.

We work together with BT to bring you TV on your phone. But recently, BT have let us know that they plan to end the service. We're working with them to understand when the service will stop and we'll keep you in the loop. It's likely that it will run until at least the end of January 2008.

Until then, you'll still be able to watch TV without any problems, when the service ends this won't affect the DAB radio.

Funny thing now though my lobster developed another fault so thought i'd be on replacement (3) but they no longer have replacements in stock so i've had to swap to another handset

Of course they haven't ... because every tw4t on this thread has been buying a bucket load of them for £20 a time, unlocking them, loading them up with dodgy software then crying because they won't work any more. But it's OK - Virgin will give you a new one.

Now they are all heartbroken because the TV app (which none of them have paid for) isn't going to work next year.

I bet your new handset doesn't have TV either but never mind - you can probably sue them for all the distress and trauma you have had to go through.

    HI all

I have just purchased a virgin lobster phone after a friend of mine showed me his. The reason was because he was able to use tomtom on the phone, and for some reason it had GPS built in. People on other forums have said you need an external GPS reciever. But for sure he does not use an external GPS receiver.

Unfortunately the phone I bought does not have GPS.
He showed me the satellites that his phone picks up by using GPStest 1.04

You can get gps test from here http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/GPS/GPS-Test-34335.shtml

I would be interested if anyone else has had this luck and their lobster has sat nav built in.

I don't believe it. Either your mate is bulling you, or both of you are mistaken.

You know you can run TomTom without a GPS receiver, right? It just won't show your current position. So he can show you TomTom running, but without a GPS it won't track your actual position.

As to the GPStest thing, I don't know. Either he is actually connected to a hidden GPS receiver and is pulling your leg, or it's showing false information.

The Lobster does NOT have GPS built in. Either he's somehow built one, or has some sort of prototype, or he's pulling your leg. I know which one I'd believe.

So..... if they have none in, they would have to swap for another handset with same specifications......................................... hang on, there is no other phone with TV and DAB Radio that run on Windows Mobile, What will they do?

  • Hi, I bought 2 of these PAYG LobsterTV phones in June as early Christmas presents. Seems a excessivly early shop but I thought it too good an opportunity to miss given the normal price was £199.99 each.

Now I hear the Tv service is to be withdrawn in January.....a week after their intended first use as Christmas presents.
The phones are in their boxes unopened and untouched but seem doomed to be useless for their main reason of purchase...... the Tv function.

    Any comments please.

Not a lot you can do - the virgin ts + cs allow them to discontinue the service.
  • My only comment would be that the TV service was poor anyway - whoever you bought them for probably wouldn't have used the TV service much after the initial "gimmick" factor.

I purchased on the basis of the TV being a bonus. What I wanted was a cheap personal DAB radio, which this phone still is. Other people have found the applications that can be loaded onto the phone more useful (as the previous pages will highlight).
    Up Tipp!

I don't know about that......Ts & Cs have to be reasonable....otherwise there would be anarchy.....it has to be tested in small claims court, or OTELO.

In this case, I think withdrawal of service in such purchase circumstances is unfair and I'm sure Virgin will offer me something.

As regards the poor TV feature, I have one in action borrowed off a friend and I find it very usefull and watchable World cup rugby has been brilliant...very watchable indeed.

I think the main feature of this phone IS Tv.

    DAB Radio.....maybe also!

As a Phone ....well nothing special at all.

I have a funny felling Virgin knew the service was not financially viable in May this year and sold off all the phones at reduced price.

Rumours are that they are looking to continue the service and are in talks....but I reckon it will be relaunced with new hardware and new terms of subscription.

This is from the virgin conditions for the tv service:
We reserve the right to change or withdraw all or any part of Mobile TV if it becomes uneconomical, technically impractical or otherwise not fulfilling its purpose to you or us
