Very grateful for anyone who can answer my questions.

Does anyone know whether this virgin phone would "cope" with putting in the £10 a month contract virgin simcard that was provided with the telewest Lobster 575. My daft 9 yr old son washed his lobster in the washing machine but the simcard works in my very basic nokia PAYG virgin phone.

My area is not one for DAB radio (a nice expensive mistake I made 12 months ago) but surely, anywhere you were, it would pick up the DAB signal, so in theory, if I was in a place other than home, I could listen ?

When it says it comes with 30mb memory for pictures and tunes, you can supplement this - i take it with the standard memory cards, so I could buy a 2gig one and treat this as an MP3 player ?

I realise the phones board might have something more on it, but it looks a great deal if it can do what I want it to

    Thanks
    Sal x

ANy virgin sim card will work in this phone, also when you spend £30 on a virgin phone they will unlock it for you for free. The phone will pick up DAB only where there is a signal strong enough for it to do so. I am unsure if the phone can take extra memory, perhaps someone may be able to help with that part.

I'm only interested in the DAB radio bit - does anyone know if the radio is any good on this thing?

I've read the reviews I can find and this looks like a right bargain. For £40, I don't see how this can be faulted.
The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

The DAB radio quality on this is superb. In my area, TV quality is also pretty good too.

I bought one of these last week, put £30 airtime on it and Virgin sent me an unlock code the same day as I requested one by email. Still using Virgin SIM but wanted it unlocked for future flexibility.

Well built, doesn't feel too big in the hand and I don't notice the bulge at the side any more, call quality is excellent, integration with Outlook is seamless and I can get email on the move and MSN (including hotmail) too - can use GPRS for receiving mail however have to use dial-up modem facility for sending as I am on Orange; works perfectly though. Camera is good, excellent little MP3 player and you can add a micro SD card to increase the memory. Has bluetooth too.

When you factor in the fact that you get 200 minutes free too, for £40 this is an absolutely astounding bargain. My 15 year old son saw it and immediately wanted one and I reckon I will get another one as a spare. Go for it, I am sure you won't regret it.

You could look at the offer this way:

£40 = 200mins + DAB radio + TV free for first 90days (BBC free till october)

A portable DAB radio the size of the lobster mobile phone costs about £50 quid at amazon.
I would say 200mins are worth about £20 line rental.
I've also heard of users installing tomtom on the phone.
and finally once you've used up your minutes sell the phone on ebay or just sell the 200min claim voucher on ebay.

Would DAB function work on other networks? I'm not interested in switching to Virgin, but would like the DAB for my car! (This Lobster's SAR rating puts me off using as normal mobile phone)

I think the DAB radio works without the simcard or a different simcard.
You need to get the phone unlocked first to insert another simcard. google "xda forums" and see if there is a free unlock solution for the lobster.

I know you need to insert the virgin simcard every 30 days to renew the TV licence in order to carry on receiving TV.
