Ignoring most of the discussion above over the rights & wrongs i would suggest your brother opens a new bank account asap as he may find a lot of the other 'big' banks may be wary of taking him on as a customer depending on exactly how his account history has been reported.0

I will defend him to the end, no matter what - that is what families do for each other isn't it?
But for goodness sake, let's get back to where all this started: according to your posts, your brother was in need of a small overdraft but incapable of arranging one, over a period of a year, even though he earns in the region of £100K a year. Why on God's earth would you want to defend him for this unbelievable failure to manage his personal financial affairs? As for Nat West reading these boards, do I care? Does he care? By this time next week half the town will know!
If you take the responses you got on here as a yardstick, "half the town" (or more) will probably be delighted that Natwest have decided to terminate the relationship with your brother. Either that, or you live in a very odd town.0 -
When the OP's brother is refused a mortgage, or a loan, or a mobile phone contract or to pay his car insurance monthly or another bank account, (which WILL happen) maybe he will realise where he is going wrong ? Maybe not, maybe he'll just thump someone.0

I confidently predict it'll all be somebody elses's fault.0 -
The bottom line is if the bank have made to decision the close the account it'll be final!
You can kick scream go the FOS but nothing will change.
The best way forward would be just to open a new account else with another lender.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I am amazed that someone can think to behave like this with a bank is ok, your brother will do himself more harm - NatWest will not be bothered to lose him, as shown in their letters.
If he was that good at running a business he wouldn't keep going overdrawn.
Good luck0 -

Thanks, he and his wife went down to the Halifax Bank this afternoon and opened personal current and savings accounts in her name only and a business bank account including a £1000 overdraft facilty in his name only with no problems at all.
He explained that he wasn't happy with the service he was getting from Nat West which consequently led to a 'falling out'.
They have withdrawn, all bar £1, everything out of the Nat West personal accounts in cash and have deposited the same at the Halifax.
The ball is now in Nat West's court as to how far they want to push it for the debit balance on the business account of just under the previously agreed limit of £500..0 -

My brother doesn't need any form of credit other than a small overdraft for his business.
They (his property investment company) own more homes than they can live in - free of any charges, they have substantial cash deposits so no need for a loan, he pays everything including his car, house etc insurance in full at renewal.
He, they, simply have no need to be indebted to anyone in their private life. Their cars are leased to his property company with a contra charge being levied against his sole trading business for tax reasons.
As for suggesting that he is some type of thug you are way off line. Yes of course he can be very intimidating if the need arises, but to think that he would actually thump someone is ridiculous. He has no need to sink to that level.0 -

Lets hope that he sticks to his overdraft this time then eh ? Maybe he has learned from this experience.
No-one has suggested he is a thug, however, in your sisterly defence of him, you have painted a picture of him which doesn't really do him any favours. He certainly sounds to be lacking in integrity.
He has trashed his credit file, the damage is done, the Halifax will still carry out their checks, he might still have some explaining to do yet. I've never heard of a business account being opened in a day but if he says this is what he's done then i suppose it must be true0
