Does anyone else like cloaks?

I made a full length black velvet hooded one many years ago - purchased the pattern from one of those shops you used to get selling material and stuff with books of patterns (are there still any of those around?). I'm no kind of seamstress at all, but it was incredibly simple, and it looked so good I have caused pedestrian crashes while out wearing it

Need to make a more heavy weight one for warmth, but haven't got one of those round toits yet!0 -
Well they can look rather stylish:

Well, yes, on the 6'6" tall ex bodybuilder.
On mere mortals, rather than Sith baddies, it's more Jedi like in style -

I have a Royal Navy boat cloak which I was given decades ago. It's windproof, waterproof and probably bomb proof. Comes in handy on bonfire night as it's big enough for me and two small children to cower under..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I hate being restricted around the body and arms, also wool makes me itch, so have a couple of long scarfy pashmina type thingies that I love.
Hubby takes the p1$$, asking where my broomstick is - Ha ha. And my desire to look mysterious like the Scottish Widows woman is a totally failed attempt, I probably look more like !!!!!! Emery in drag (google it youngsters!), especially when the ends get caught in entrances and car doors.
Still I love them, some are colder than others, but find one which keeps out the chill wind and you will love it forever.0 -
What do you do with a shoulder-bag when wearing a cloak? Carry it inside the cloak (and have a lumpy side rather than a nice smooth line)? You can't carry it outside ...
I guess you all carry clutch-bags instead

I just done a search for 'Cape' in Ebay, and there are over 9000 listings under Women's Clothing. You might want to refine the search a bit ! A seach for 'cloak' gave me 1300 hits. There's quite a wide selection on there....
I bought a warm long cape/cloak from Ebay a couple of years ago, it is from M&S and reversable, black on one side and coffee coloured on the other. It's fabulous, and only cost me £10 (no-one else bid for it).
Now is a good time to look for them as people seem to sell them at the end of winter - an alternative to putting them in the loft maybe.
Have fun!

Me me me! I love them, and I love making them.
I have one that's sort of normal but dressy wear, a couple of capes (hooded, come to just above my elbows) and about 4 for my LARP kit.
Recently did a hooded, calf-length, semicircular all-wool one for a friend at LARP with a hand-embroidered dragon on the back, trimmed in ribbon and buckled at the front. He says he feels very knightly in it...and very warm
