Does anyone else like cloaks?

I love them, the lovely luxurious lines and material, enveloping whilst framing. They complement most outfits, keep you warm (terribly important for a cold bod like me), look nice.
But I see virtually none about. There's the economics, I suppose, as they tend to involve reams of material.
However, I saw one in town being worn in town the other day. It looked as though it was made of a very lightweight material, so as to be foldable into the size of a small compact umbrella when not in use, and was whipped out to provide the requisite additional layer as temperatures plummeted at dusk. It had a hood, and reached mid calf. It complemented her work outfit completely, as it would have even if she were dressed for dinner.
I do regret that I was not in a position to query where it had been purchased from. I am bemused that an item like that is not all the vogue, especially for girls dressed up in nothing dresses for a night out in subzero temperatures.
Is it because they don't feel it at all, or it hasn't occurred to them, or the name of the game is not to cover up at any point, even when making their way to the venue, or that they remain optimistic of encountering a chivalrous gentleman who will drape his evening jacket over their chilled shoulders?
Or is it a more simplistic answer, and no one else really likes cloaks?

Have you never seen "The Incredibles"?Edna: It will be bold! Dramatic!
Bob: Yeah!
Edna: Heroic!
Bob: Yeah. Something classic, like, like Dynaguy. Oh, he had a great look! Oh, the cape and the boots...
Edna: I]throws a wadded ball of paper at Bob's head[/I No capes!
Bob: Isn't that my decision?
Edna: Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids.
Bob: Listen, E...
Edna: November 15th of '58! All was well, another day saved, when... his cape snagged on a missile fin!
Bob: Thunderhead was not the brightest bulb...
Edna: Stratogale! April 23rd, '57! Cape caught in a jet turbine!
Bob: E, you can't generalize about these things...
Edna: Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex!
I]shouts[/I
Edna: No capes!0 -
I love them and have recently treated myself to a cashmere one! Wasn't cheap, but should last for years!! I have to say when was looking there were loads of choices, but maybe many of them have gone out of the shops now as they are getting the Spring clothes in - but if you have a figure that isn't a tiny size they are very flattering!0

No I don't like them. Along with clutch bags, floaty scarves, long strings of beads and long hair worn loose, they just seem to give the wearers something faffy to keep fiddling about with. How would you manage on a windy English day with shopping, handbag and a couple of small kids while clad in a billowing cloak!
Much prefer a well fitting coat that I can just put on and move about in normally.0 -
My friend has a beautiful black one that she commissioned from a local dressmaker. It has a silk lining and she looks like a gothic heroine wearing it. She is very beautiful and majestic though. I am not sure it would suit everyone as I think they are sometimes quite hard to wear. I am not sure they are that flattering on short or wide people. I am short and just look like I am drowning in fabric in one.0

I always suffer from cold arms so not having arm cover especially on cold or windy days wouldn't suit me,0

Yes I have one and I love it, its black and I frequently get complimented on it.
the reason you cant find one is because they are not in fashion and also the shops are full of spring/summer now. I got mine about 3 years ago when they were in fashion and where in shops everywhere. Id maybe try ebay?0 -
I had one made for our wedding, as we were getting married in winter. I love it and keep meaning to get it adjusted to a more suitable length (it had to be long enough to go over my dress). I wish I'd got it done sooner, as it would've been ideal for keeping me warm whilst heavily pregnant.0

I managed to get a beautiful blue , green and red handwoven in Wales cape from my local Charity Shop.
Like this one - but different colours

I would love, love, love cloaks to come back into fashion, along with peasant style bodices and those 50s circle skirts! (Possibly not all 3 at the same time!) I'm far too self concious to wear them regardless unfortunately
