Aldi more expensive and quality declining?

Just you slipping. It may be a little more expensive such as 1% more every few months due to inflation but it doesn't make a huge difference to a £79 bill. Keep your receipts and over time you can see the pricing trends of your favourite products go up or down in price.:footie:

I think they all are - has anyone else noticed the creep in veg prices in Lidl and Aldi? I'm used to paying, say 69p for a bag of green beans. Now suddenly they're doing the £1 a bag thing with thier veg, just like evil T*sco. And the bags are getting smaller, 150g or 200g instead of 250g. I'm going to have to learn to grow these things. Even the indoor market I go to that is usually the cheapest place is charging the same for green beans, I guess they are very out of season in most countries at the mo.Grocery Challenge - February £1000

If you grow them at home it's likely you will get a decent crop between June and September...only 4 months. You will need to prepare them for storing so you have them year round....such as pickling or freezing.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Getting a wee bit more expensive, or is it just us slipping as usual. Spent £79 yesterday. Then went next door to Tesco and spent another £37
Both Aldi and Lidl have long since been considered the cheap shop they were, I think once they started to stock 'Branded' foods they became much on par with other shops elsewhere, somethings you buy are a good buy and others can be sought cheaper elsewhere.
I also do not rate Aldi or Lidl for their fresh Fruit and Vegetables, they look good, prices seem good, but the actual quality and /or taste is very disappointing!Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

We have only been going to Aldi for a month or so and we feel the same about the fruit and veg hence the trip next door to the dreaded pesky Tesky.0 -

That is the trouble when you try to do what you can in one shop, I find Alid/Lidl are either under ready (garlic etc), look good, feel good until cut open (Mango's etc.) and other stuff is tasteless or goes soft/off quickly.
I also find on the few occasions I have shopped in Morrison's their Fruit and vegetables fall way below expectations, and as the biggest part of my shop is fruit and veg (just put in a £50 Waitrose order and about £35-£36 of that is fruit and veg) I want quality, taste and something that will last more than one or two days at best.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Strangely enough, I was thinking just that myself. I'm sure the 70% chocolate I buy used to be 99p and last week it was £1.09. If I'm right that's about a 10% increase so way over inflation. I think orange juice had gone up too.
I buy a specific range of items in Aldi (f&v is ok with us generally) and then top up in Sainsbury. I think I'll do a Sainsbury shopping list on mysupermarket this week and compare Aldi prices.0 -

Try frozen very fine green beans, they are much cheaper out of season at £1.40 a kilo in Tesco. I defrost in the refrigerator or on the worktop on a plate rather than cook from frozen: they are then slightly softer and heat through really fast so you don't destroy the nutrients in cooking.
Aldi red cabbage is much cheaper than the supermarkets, that is in season. IIIRC was about 50p a kilo last time I got one, 80p a kilo in Asda. And most of us don't eat enough produce from the purple colour group.
