Another good option is Neutrogena norwegian hand cream. Its very thick so use sparingly, but works great on chapped hands. I prefer the unscented version as not keen on the smell of the perfumed one.
Have to second this Also posted this one a month or so back as its the one the dermatologist at the Nhs trust I worked in recommended , both as a softener and as a barrier cream0 -
I too would recommend the Body Shop hemp, but as I couldn't get it cheap enough last time I popped in, I tried out samples of all sorts (from the body shop & Lush), and what I'm currently using is Body Shop Brazil nut body butter. It's fab, thicker than most of their other body butters, but absorbs into my hands really well (can't stand anything that makes my hands greasy), and comes in a huge tub, and has a very mild scent.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

If you can find it, try Melrose. It's a lemongrass scented balm and I cram it onto sore/split/cracked fingertips, cover with micropore and leave on overnight. It works wonders. In fact, I'm just about to go prime my poor old fingers with it now!0

This, I am studying Hair and Makeup right now and your hands get really sore with them being wet or hot heat on them all day. My teacher told us all to go out and get Neutrogena hand cream cause its a god-send and it is. Only need a tiny amount as well.
I also like Soap and Glory really thick and smells lovely0 -
I also have a big problem with very dry hands. A friend recommended using E45 wash cream instead of soap, and within a day or two my hands were nice and soft again! Much better for me as I always forget to use hand cream.I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this
Use your imagination, or you can borrow mine!0 -
I go for Hemp from Bodyshop - normal price £10 - a lot of the time you get it for £5, its brilliant, I suffer with dry hands, and my dad does as well, his go into cracks, I lent him the hemp to try never had it back!!
Another Neutrogena Norweigna - again agree the unfragranced is fab
Third I'd recommned - Vaseleine Intense care hand cream - you want the one thats a white tube. Its brilliant, I tend to use this day to day basis.
xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I usually use Body Pump Hemp but occasionally use Vasoline with cotton gloves overnight. That seems to moisturise very well.
I've also used Crabtree and Evelyn Gardener's Hand Therapy, which is very good but quite expensive.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Think I'm going to have to try this hemp stuff
what does it smell like?

As much as I would suggest using a decent hand cream, you wont get far unless you deal with the reason for your dry hands.
If your washing your hands a lot, check the types of hand wash or gel your using, you could be using something with too much alcohol or sulfates in, these will not only wash dirt from your hands but also their natural oils meaning your hands will be drier and drier each time....no cream can keep up with that as the natural oils in your skin are so deep down you can't replace all of what you lose with a hand cream no matter what type.
If your hands are in air conditioned environments a lot this can also be very drying.
If your washing your hands in hard water a lot this will have a drying effect.
If your dieting severely you can have an effect on your skin as your body cuts down on everything in it's bid to slow down and conserve calories- natural oil production can often be one of the losses- try not to cut calories too quickly and also even if your not dieting, try to keep a balanced diet with enough natural proteins, healthy fats (nuts, plant oils, oily fish...etc) and keep up your fluid intake (water not wine)
Maybe look at what your putting on your hands too. Petroleum and mineral oils can act as good barrier creams and can help when your skin is chapped and sore but it can also mean your skin can't work out how dry it really is as it gets a bit suffocated with the non-natural barrier which can mean it cuts back on producing it's own natural oils more and more which means your hands end up drier and drier by the application. Try to use natural oils and natural waxes for a less drying effect.0 -
Neutrogena is my fave, I know Aveeno is great for people with Eczema or dry skin connected with chemo or radiotherapy.0
