Recommend me some hand cream for really really dry hands.

For some reason the skin on my hands has gone really really dry. It's that dry, it's cracking and sore in places particularly finger tips.

I have been using an Elemis body oil on a night before bed & wearing a pair of cotton gloves, but it's not helping.

If anyone could recommend a cream or lotion it would be much appreciated.

  • I have tried all sorts and I have found the Body Shop Hemp is by far the best.

I had L'Occitane which gets fab reviews but didn't do much for me!

Body shop hemp is what my OH uses and he had the same problem with dry cracked hands. Now he uses it regularly they never get that bad anymore.

It's weird because I very rarely suffer with dry hands. However, for some reason they have gotten really bad.

Can't get away with L'Occitane. Have tried a few of theirs & have had a bad reaction to them.
  • Body Shop Hemp is excellent; my OH uses it. Lately I've started using Aveeno and it's making a difference to my flaky nails as well. It says on the tube; "lasts 24 hours, even after hand-washing", and it really seems to do that. It also sinks in properly - and fast - and doesn't leave any "coating" on my hands, so I don't have to be careful about touching anything right away. It's on offer at Boots (3 for 2) and Superdrug just now as well.

On my dry skin I have used Allergenics from Holland and Barrett

I had a bad spell with my skin on my hands and most stuff seemed to do more harm than good, I found this stuff suggested on here and its great for my skin.

Another good option is Neutrogena norwegian hand cream. Its very thick so use sparingly, but works great on chapped hands. I prefer the unscented version as not keen on the smell of the perfumed one.

  • Body Shop Hemp (I've never paid full price - it is on offer an awful lot). You can get a hemp handwash too. I use both when my hands are really dry.

I've had this occasionally, from working with water a lot, or dust, or perhaps too much use of soap.

I have some stuff called Unguentum M, which came on a prescription (and reading about it it's not suitable for everyone) so as well as the health shop it might be worth asking the doctor or pharmacist.
