I'm not sure what cable you mean. Lead? Is it by any chance covered by the 2yr warranty?

I would suspect if you want a definite guaranteed original proper replacement that you contact them anyway, and find who they suggest. May not be the cheapest, but it'll be a legit replacement, and I suspect if it's an expensive part found elsewhere for cheap prices, it'll be counterfeited and you wont be sure it's genuine from other places.
  • it is the cable that fits into the headphones,i have took them back to ARGOS but they have called be a liar and accused me of splitting the cable myself, which i haven't and have refused to replace them.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE REPLACEMENT PARTS?
Replacement parts aren’t available yet, but they will be soon. Keep checking back for updates.

    If the cable fitted to the phones has failed, you may want to consider another set of headphones by a different maker. From Wikipedia;

"In July 2008, Dr. Dre released his brand of headphones, Beats by Dr. Dre. The line consists of ....... The headphones are made by Monster."

Monster are primarily known for Audio Cable manufacture, not for headphones. According to their Wiki page, they didn't enter the headphone market until 2008, when they partnered with Dr Dre.

"In 2008, Monster Cable entered the audio headphone business by creating a new headphone line called Beats by Dr. Dre, in partnership with Dr. Dre. In January 2012, Monster Cable and Beats Electronics dissolved the partnership, although the manufacturing agreement will not expire until the end of 2012. "

So what you have here with Dr Dre is a badge-engineered boutique product, made by a firm with no experience in this market until 2008. Style over substance would seem to sum it up perfectly.

Given the choice between a time-honoured maker such as Sennheiser, AKG, Beyer, or Shure, all of which have been making phones since at least the 1970s, I'd choose them over the new kidz on de block anytime.

Note the line about the manufacturing agreement ending at the end of 2012 - are they still making them? Will there be ANY spare parts in 2013?

Try again. It isn't up to a shop assistant to decide whether a failure is user damage or poor manufacture. Insist that they either replace them or return them to the manufacturer. If they still refuse contact trading standards. There are better boards on MSE than this for discussing consumer rights.

Beats by dre are not very good headphones, paying at least 2/3 thirds just for the name.

Monster are now producing there own headphones, same as the dre but under there own beand, so maybe that is why it says ending 2012.

As for cable would assume it was just a 3.5mm jack to jack, get that anywhere for a few quid

Quite agree...Can't believe people pay so much for these things...You could buy some Grado SR60is, that have won pretty much every award going, and still have a bunch of change to buy some smoothies or whatever kids do these days :)

That said, I'm glad kids don't buy the Grados - open back headphones would be even more annoying on the bus :)

ETA: but, you know, each to their own and all :)

FWIW, I'm still using the pairs of Sennheisers and Beyer Dynamics that I and my father bought in the 1970s.

..and the Dr Dre have failed already ...
