Mrs G and I lift those... but only when we fill them with cider. Actually, it's apple juice but it will be cider by now.0

Strength training builds lovely lean, compact muscle but it's bloody hard work which is why most people don't do it!
"Toned" is one of those works that ticks me off immensely because it makes people think you get nicely gently rippling muscles from a bit of yoga and the odd Pilates class plus lifting a 1lb weight a billion times. Grr.

And I watch them in the gym day in day out and they still look EXACTLY the same as they did 1 year ago, SIGH!!!!!! My favourites are the treadmill queens, who spend hours on there and still complain about their wobbly bits! Anywhooo to each their own, it's ALL ABOUT ME!!!0 -
I found bodypump a complete and utter waste of time. Have to agree, I started doing caveman training in November and results are starting to show. Mentally I feel the best ever and that started happening within weeks - even if it's psychological who cares? Tweaked my diet also but not to anything that I would 'fall off' of.
Having said that I did get slow and steady weight loss from swimming and zumba/salsa/dance related exercise over a period of a couple of years. Note: Years.0 -

Ok - so at the risk of sounding a complete div what should I be doing in the gym?
Female - 5' 4" tall - weigh 117lbs having lost 50lbs and now I want some muscle definition!!
Can only use the gym at work which has the usual cardio stuff plus one of these and a set of hand weights ranging from 2kg up to 15kg.
Any advice gratefully received.xxx Nikki xxx0 -

Maybe we could petition to have them back, and volunteer to refill them all

Granted it's not for everyone but if you put 100% into it with effort and technique it can be a great work out - it's dancing basically and just look at the bodies on dancers! Problem is the majority of people don't give it 100%, have believed the crud about it burning 'up to 1000 calories' and therefore think they've had the workout of their lives when barely breaking a sweat.0 -
