Being 5 ft 6 and just over 10 stones means you really don't have a lot of weight to lose which could explain why it is taking time to see results.

That would rather depend on an individual's frame size and/or how your define "a lot".
  • My boot camp instructor was saying this morning that it can take up to a year to see results properly, but everyone is different and what works for him won't work for me. Personally I start going to Boot Camp end of November 2012, and for 5 weeks in Jan/Feb I tried to go 3 times a week and started to see a difference in my fitness and running stamina for definite.

I aim to eat Paleo each day as well. Mark Sissons' book The Primal Blueprint is good, although I think it allows for more 'cheats' than Paleo.

If anyone knows a good hot chocolate recipe I can have which is paleo/primal then that would be great as that is my one vice :rotfl:

I've heard wonderful things about this book before, forgot about it, but have just purchased it, thanks!

I don't go to the gym but I have increased how much I walk and walk up escalators and stairs and within two weeks I have noticed my legs are starting to tone up a little. But then I weigh more than you so that might make a difference.
  • Strength training gives results fast. None of this toning and "gentle exercise" rubbish.

If you want a strong, good, healthy body, it comes with utter hard work - sweat and exhaustion.

Totally AGREE!!! One can be heavier on the scales but be totally ripped!! STRONG IS THE NEW SKINNY!!!! People are always looking for the EASY ROUTE, a fit and great toned body comes from working hard in the gym (or outside) and I personally swear by weight training!

The results you get from weight training do depend a great deal on personal genetics though.

Strongly disagree! My mom, and one sister and aunts are all HUGE, small waist and big bottomed, I do a mixture of cardio/HIIT and lift weights and I am toned and have a relatively nice physique, I'm not 100% satisfied so I'm working my b*tt off to change it, and I KNOW it's possible, with the right diet and exercise regime!

Well, we will have to agree to disagree.

Yes, anybody can get toned with hard work but not everybody can get big bulky muscles unless their genes allow it... or they use drugs.

Edit: I'm talking from a male perspective here.

Depends on your definition of bulky, look at the World Natural Bodybuilding Champions for the upper limits - they really are not that big. Very very few are willing to put that level of commitment in so won't ever approach those results regardless of genetics.

At least nine times out of ten men that claim to be hard gainers are doing something fairly obvious wrong - not enough overall calories, too much protein not enough fat and carbs, poor technique or bad programme, relatively high calorie burn away from the weights routine (active job, active lifestyle, too much cardio), other bad lifestyle choices.

A small percentage of the population are non responders tho.
