I'm fairly sure that ex or not, if someone moved a new partner into my house without my agreement I'd have something to say about it particularly if my offspring was living there too.

She's his ex, yes - living RENT FREE in his house, and with another man sleeping in his bed.

You know what - I think that even my mild-mannered son might be a tad upset at that!

Not only that but the ex never lived with the offender in that house as a family unit, she only got to move in after the offender was locked up

According to the op, it's a work in progress, no kitchen as such installed as yet. Son said to GF to move in for a while as a stop gap , and she then goes changes the locks, and breaks all contact with op,s family

Common Law is not recognized in this country..No such thing as Squatters rights any more..True. We don,t have to wait till shes at work we can enter with reasonable force. She has no claim over the property what so ever.
The Police can get involved at our request..She Caused criminal damage by changing the locks on a property that is,nt her,s and she has no right to make any alterations to said property with permission

England and Wales have a common law system - it's ironic that you are saying that the police don't know the law, when you don't seem to know much about it either.

I imagine he would be upset. But I don't find it shocking that she hasn't told the ex.

I missed that! Was that on this thread or another? If she moved in after he was locked up and it was to be a 'stop-gap' then I can see why the family are so livid.

That said, the father is no saint either.

OP you should post this on the 'House Buying, Renting and Selling' board for advice from people knowledgeable of the law.

I've got a funny feeling that there's an implied tenancy here as he's given her sole occupancy of the house...so stripped of all the emotion and the he said she said, it may be 'tenant has not paid rent and now we want to evict' which may need a court order to be done legally.

TBH I'm wondering if the ex had a legitimate reason for wanting the change the locks on what is currently (rightly or wrongly) her home- the OP hasn't mentioned where the cultivation took place (if she knows), what if it was at this rundown house? there could be nasties out there with keys to the old locks
