Orange to EE - magic numbers
Hi,
a few days ago I got a call from Orange offering me to move over to EE to get 4G, I asked if everything stayed the same and the girl said yes, the only difference being faster internet speeds.
I've received the SIM card and a Welcome to EE letter, which got me thinking about my Magic Numbers.
Magic Numbers are vital to my work, all of my colleagues are on Orange for the simple reason we can be on the phone to each other for several hours per day at times, I can't afford to lose this.
After spending ages trying to find confirmation on the net of whether the Magic Numbers do carry over or not, I rang Orange and the guy confirmed I'd keep them. I queried this as I would no longer be an Orange customer but an EE customer and they do not offer Magic Numbers.
I also asked if my work colleagues would keep my number as one of their Magic Numbers as, again, I wouldn't qualify under the T & C's being an EE customer.
After keeping me on hold for about 10 mins he came back and said I would keep existing MN's and my colleagues would keep me as one, but I wouldn't be able to add any more (on Orange you get 1 extra every 6 months).
I asked for confirmation of this and he said a Team Leader would email me this within 10-15 mins. This was 2 hours ago
Has anyone switched over and kept their MN's or have they lost them?
I stopped trusting these type of companies years ago and I can foresee problems down the line. I haven't put the new SIM card in my phone yet.
Thanks if anyone can help.

If you think about it , it makes sense that you keep the MN but not be able to add anymore (much to your dissapointment) , I left orange years ago and still get texts saying I can add a MN0

I don't think you can still use them. My DH moved to EE recently and I got a text saying that my DH's number is no longer available as a magic number for me.0

Yes, this is also what the T&Cs say.
OP, I would get it in writing ASAP or cancel the contract while you still can as the MNs are vital to you.0 -
Thanks for that,
When the guy in the call centre took 10 mins just to find out the answer to what should have been a routine question, alarm bells started ringing. And now that the email has (still) failed to arrive (surprise, surprise), I'm not taking any chances. I'll ring them back and cancel.
Cheers0 -
EE use the T-Mobile billing system so I can't see how Magic numbers could still work.0

sounds a little like the t-mobile ringtagz, we migrated to EE and got charged for the ringtagz this month but they don't work on EE.

could you please post the outcome
my other half is in the process of upgrading to EE and whilst magic numbers don't matter to her as she will get u/l calls,
it would to me has i'm thinking of reducing my minutes thus meaning if i want to speak to her i'll end up having to text her to call me back!0 -
This is a reason not to move to EE then.0

You get unlimited minutes on EE plans anyway? So why not ring them back?I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

It's not as convenient to call people back, as it wastes time. It's fine to have such an arrangement between close friends, but it's awkward between business contacts for example.0
