    Hi

    If this was installed by the Wicke installer you should have a claim against them as the fitting is covered for 2 years {see link}

Totally in agreement with everything southcoastrgi has said.

Absolutely NO WAY should these cupboards have been fitted with ONE inch screws, madness!!

As has already been said take lots of photos of the mess in the kitchen, also take pictures of the screws (against a tape measure if possible) and start a notepad making notes of dates and names of people you have spoken to, you will find this to be helpful when everything has finally put right and you wish to make a final claim.

Initially go as far up the chain of command as possible in a company at the start as they are the ones who can make quicker decisions. Tell them you want everything else that this fitter installed to be removed and reinstalled.
  • Perhaps a photo, (or link to ), of the fixings.

    What size wall unit?

There are limits as to the weight a unit can hold.

Thank you very much for your replies.

Should I contact the house insurance and start a claim or do I go to Wickes first? The installer says that he has already spoken to Head office in order to be given permission for the goodwill gesture.
I don't feel that we should be taking the brunt of a claim, if someone is to blame for it but I am also so angry when I think that my son missed being underneath it all by minutes!

dont contact your insurance..why should you
as others have said this is all done to wickes

Work for Wickes in K&B and agree with most of the advice on this thread.

Poor workmanship, and under warranty....the fitters offer of a goodwill gesture is a joke. Southcoast is spot on. If this has happened to one wall unit it could happen to them all. Stuff the fitter, speak initially to the store that sold you the kitchen and fit and if you get no joy there, directly to the installations team at HO in Northampton.

You need a different fitter to come in to do the remedial work and all the fixings of all the wall units shouild be checked. Either the store or the installations team will be able to sort this for you. It might take a few days to sort simply because we are at the end of Winter Sale and snowed under right now, but it will get sorted. Make sure you get someone different to undertake the work and not your original fitter.
  • Interesting how everyone is jumping in with both feet and screaming 'poor workmanship'.

I will agree if the photo evidence backs up the claim!

well unless the OP is lying or can't use a tape measure then i think 'poor workmanship' is the kindest way of putting it ;)
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Someone lying on the internet?

No way, couldn't possibly happen. Could it?

  • Are you trying to say that some people don't always tell the truth or tell little white lies on the internet  surely not ;)

  • Thanks to those who have taken the time to give advice, particularly southcoastrgi. Happy to show photos (as soon as I've worked out how to do it). I have followed the boards for years now but never posted until this occasion, but can assure you I am perfectly capable of operating a tape measure. I haven't claimed anything or implicated anyone. All I asked for is advice on the way forward and am most grateful to those who gave it. Husband is at Wickes now and if anyone is interested, I will report back when he returns.
