MrsA - we started off in the cosleeper cot (the idea being he'd be in there the whole time with me dragging him into beds for feeds and then back again) - but at 6 days I was worried he was a bit warm and had read about cosleeping helping regulate babies' temperature so slept with him in the bed with me instead. And he just slept so much better he never went back really :) At first I was a bit nervous about things, but I'm not going to squash him (I sleep much the same as when I was pregnant, on my side with my legs up at 90 degrees and with my arm under my pillow and with him where the bump was - can't roll over onto him from that position - plus, I sleep very lightly with him in the bed); and I don't honestly think he'd suffocate from any of our bedding (for a start it is all breathable but equally if it does cover his face he gets upset and wakes up). At first I made sure the duvet was well away from him and pillows too.

As we have a cot on the side of the bed he can't roll out (well he could at the moment as we're between cots but doesn't) - the one we got could also have a side fitted for use as a moses basket.

    Hello Ladies :)

First time I've logged on the laptop for ages!!

We co-slept for a while in the earlier stages, similar to Nutella really when I was on maternity etc. I did get him out of the habit of doing it as I found he was waking in the night, purely to come into our bed - as I would put him in with us and he went straight back to sleep! It was lovely for closeness and cuddles though and I don't regret it. My OH was more keen on getting him out of the habit really as he didn't really like it for most of the night.

Well....now I am on the laptop, I don't have that much to say!!

Our house should be moving along quite quickly. Can't remember who I was telling but its the one we went to view which I was not sure about with it being a bit dated etc...just goes to show that its always worth a viewing though!!
We are planning to convert the garage which is attached, into a playroom and build a utility room on the side of the kitchen. Once its decorated all through it should be really nice :)

Hope everyone is okay....sleep well all xxx

  • We've decided to try and wean them off night feeds though if we can. I know we may not be able to cut them all out but I think most of it is habit rather than actually being hungry. Any tips?
We're not trying to actually night wean but LO was waking up and feeding more frequently but obviously not really *that* hungry every time so if she wakes before about three then (if I remember when half asleep) rather than feed as the first response, we rock/shush and nine times out of ten she goes back to sleep for at least another hour but if she's obviously not going to go back to sleep then I feed her. Then once she's been fed, we do the same if she wakes up within two hours of feeding. This has meant she's feeding once and occasionally twice rather than mostly twice and often three times. We're not pushing it any further than that and have a low threshold for deciding to feed her because I think she *does* need a feed in the night and one or two feeds is not a problem for us but I imagine one could keep stretching it further until they were having no feeds if they weren't actually hungry.
  • Hi all,
Quick weaning/nappy question! We are gently weaning little miss, a bit of baby rice and the first taste pouches, a few mouthfuls per day, keeping the same milk feeds as its just for taste more than anything.

My handy baby book said if there is a green nappy it's diarrhoea - where as she might have had a dirty nappy a couple of times per day, we are having stages where there isn't a dirty one for 24-36 hours. We got a dark green one yesterday followed by a brownish one (SO sorry for TMI!) - unlike the usual yellow breastfed types.

We've had the occasional green nappy before and I've put it down to her love of drinking the swimming pool water :o or too much foremilk when I know I've been a bit 'overinflated' with milk but this, I can only assume is to do with the food? She was fine on baby rice fine on carrot so this week I tried 3 days of pear and got this. Is it likely to be a reaction to the food? Or does baby diarrhoea constitute multiple green nappies?

Sorry for the silly questions and TMI - I daren't ask the HV!
  • And with the co-sleeping, I forgot to say that we have single duvets (saves duvet wars and means I can have a thicker one than DH) so LO isn't under a duvet when she's in the middle of the bed. I totally forgot it was unusual but then reading other's replies I realised it might sound like we have her in a sleeping bag under a duvet!

There are no silly questions round here :) Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of weaning poo! Sounds very normal to me - once you get to a certain amount of solids, the days of yellow poo are well and truly over. Personally I wouldn't worry about the odd green nappy, and diarrhoea would involve very frequent dirty nappies and very runny poo of the sort that the nappy may well struggle to contain. Once you start weaning, the frequency, consistency and colour of the poo will change, and you'll never know what to expect, but pretty much anything is normal - the only type to watch out for is small, hard poo as it indicates constipation. You'll probably find that things get a bit more predictable once weaning is fully established, but for now expect the unexpected :o

Thanks Nutella! :D:D Will be interesting to see what happens! We've had our first orange sick which was a change from milk! (carrot!)

Did someone say they had a pop-up travel cot? Like this...http://www.amazon.co.uk/NS-Associates-Large-Travel-Centre/dp/B000HK8DDE/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp

or does anyone else have a travel cot that they recommend?

Can't decide if we want the travel cot to pop up and be a garden sunshade and play tent too or if we go for a normal travel cot and have it double as a play pen...... any suggestions on how you use your travel cot if you do have one?

We saw playtents in Mothercare so could get one of those for the garden and get a regular travel cot but it seems silly to have two things when one could do....but then we'd be short of a playpen...do we need a playpen? Knowing my little Houdini we probably do!

Edit: Please note my optimism for a sunny summer! :D

Edit 2: Sorry for the Daily Mail link but...twins born 87 days apart - a lovely story...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2316634/Meet-Amy-Katie-miracle-twins-born-staggering-87-DAYS-apart--odds-winning-lottery.html
  • Morning ladies,

My 6 week old doesn't seem to finishing his bottles for the last couple of days, he's always leaving 10/20ml. I'm not overly concerned because he seems fine in himself, not being any different to his usual demanding self but could it have been a growth spurt the last couple of weeks because he was finishing 180ml every time before and now isn't?

During the day it's not keeping him going 4 hours like before all the time but at night it is. Strange!

What's everyone up to today? Me and lo are meant to be going for dinner with my sister, she has a broken hand so no auntie cuddles for them :( I also have christening invites to finish as well. Managed to do a lot of them , and then realised I haven't put the time on!!! Arrrggghhh so now having to write it on the envelope grrrr!

We got a pop up travel cot and it was fine for the first 9 months or so, but now she hates it with a passion. We used it when we went on holidays when she was about 6 mths old and that was fine. She'll happily play with it, climbing in and out, but if we try to use it for sleeping now she rolls around and tips it to the sides. She's now 13 months and we haven't really been able to use ours for sleeping in for months, ours is the Koo-di pop up with an inflatable mattress. Now its a bit sunnier as least we canuse it out in the garden.

My MIL went and got a fold up travel cot and she will happily sleep in that so in my opinion I'd get a fold up one.

I share your optimism! We *will* have a lovely summer - in fact we *need* one  LO is going to run around in the park and we're going on lots of family picnics, so I will accept nothing less than nice and warm sunny days, especially at weekends and on Thursdays ;)

Sorry can't advise on travel cots and playpens - we don't have either.
