Ebay not helping after being scammed
Comments
-
the transaction wasnt done through eBay
otherwise you would have paid by Paypal
why didnt you?
theres no point picking holes in my logic. its you that allowed youself to be scammed.
my original advice stands
Yes i know i allowed myself to be scammed by the way i paid but the transaction was completed via eBay. I bought the item via ebay and then paid for by bank transfer. It's only the payment that wasn't made through ebay.
PayPal wasn't available otherwise i would have done it that way. The payment options were bank transfer or collection.
Does that mean that someone commits to buybutbpays via a cheque or collection hasn't done it through ebay...think about it!!!0 -

paypal is always available on eBay(except cars)
if it isnt,walk away
your point about cheques and collection just bolsters my point
they have exactly the same risks vs paypal0 -
Just to clear up a misunderstanding, ebay do not validate addresses when someone registers, if they did none of us would end up with some of the really stupid and obviously wrong addresses that we get when someone goes through ebay checkout.
It is paypal that do have some form of validation, and even then only after a certain amount of money has been taken. Paypal validate by checking the card details and name against the address given (it is not foolproof).
There is therefore no way ebay can validate the address to the OPs satisfaction. OP either risks small claims based on info he already holds or tries a different tack with the police- I woudl suspect either has only a small chance of success.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As custardy has said assuming this is not a car then paypal would have been available, sellers cannot refuse it .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I actually typed that at first, but then considered the fact that it 'appears' the sale did show in the real ebay as otherwise ebay would not even have talked to him on the phone.
EDIT: It appears OP no longer requires our help as it seems by pointing out that he gave up buyer protection is apaprently 'being holier than thou'.
It's a shame as although I think it very unlikely he can recover his money someone may well have come up with something to at least try here.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes it was, and given that the spot price changes by the minute ... 3 weeks makes a huge difference as to exactly when you buy and at what price.
As it happens I am telling a blantant lie over the losing interest as it was on credit card that gets paid off in full and the 3 weeks didn't span a statement/payment period. If it had been on one of the sub-prime cards that charges interest immediately and at a massive rate, I could have lost money - quite alot in fact. so meh.0 -
I assume you have the sellers name and rough address - these can be got from Ebay under one of the advanced tabs if you bought through Ebay.
You could crossreference this with a database like 192.com to see if details match.
I also imagine you could get a Norwich Pharmacal against Ebay to reveal all the personal info they have on that Ebay user...think of the cost though. That might show if any details have changed (like email address) that would point towards a hacked account.
What happens then?
If the account was hacked, then is the original account owner responsible? They could rightly deny all knowledge.
If the seller is the actual person, do they have any assets worth pursuing?
How much good money are you willing to throw after bad?
And yes, Ebay could be more proactive on hacked accounts where their is sufficient evidence rather than relying on automated forms. Though then they would be deluged with listings that are believed to be fraudualent. That's why they off Paypal whether you like it or not.0 -

There would be no point in anyone lying to you and claiming you are in some way covered by eBay, when clearly you are not. Your only hope in reimbursement would be to claim via small claims, there is no other advice available as Paypal is immune from the proof of purchase whilst eBay are immune from any responsibility.
Shooting the messengers wont help you as I am sure nobody in this thread works for either eBay or Paypal.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
