Ebay not helping after being scammed

Paying by BT is something you have to accept risk for, you did/do.
But paying by Paypal covers you both for sales on and off Ebay. Pointless to take a risk when none should be there.UsernameAlreadyExists wrote: »Hacked established accounts with good "ebay" stats could easily encourage people to "foolishly" spend their money. In that case ... ebay are actually endorsing the scam with their own rating mechanism ... but still wash their hands of it ... because no commission? no problem ...
It isn't Ebay's fault.UsernameAlreadyExists wrote: »I was scammed (but had paid via paypal) ... it took 3 weeks for me to get my money back. The hacked account was soon battered with negatives in a 2 week period following a perfectly normal run. Numerous messages all went completely ignored and the only reason I got refunded was because the seller didn't provide proof of postage. The fact that it transpired it was OBVIOUSLY hacked counts for nothing. it's all just process/procedure and may we well be manned by chimps. They simply don't care about anything other than raking in money.
You were scammed, yes, but you didn't lose out and you didn't lose out because the safeguard is in place. Hackers don't send out the item, so you will ALWAYS win a INR. Doh or is that too much for you to comprehend?:rotfl:0 -
I admit i am at fault for the way i paid but the point i am trying to make is that EBay are not helping me get the matter resolved by not validating that the postal address i have is legitimate.
Without the confirmation of address i am unable to pursue the matter in the small claims court. I believe i have a strong case and even if i don't get my money back i want to stop the person doing the same to someone else.
How to get eBay to reply to me, that is the problem
When you say you want them to validate the address, in what respect?0 -
Is there any reason you can't just 'assume' the address is correct, and go ahead with the small claims case?0

A hacked account is usually the result of the owner of said account being irresponsible or lacking in care with online details.
It isn't Ebay's fault.
Yes it is, there are not enough safeguards in place to prevent the hacking/scamming taking place in the first place. It's rife.
They should introduce IP/machine logs (to detect access from a "different than usual location"), additional credentials should be required for selling - a simple username/password is not sufficient these days. Look at the likes Apple/Facebook/Sony etc being hacked and all manner of details potentially being "out in the open" that people can use to access other accounts.chancesare wrote: »You were scammed, yes, but you didn't lose out and you didn't lose out because the safeguard is in place. Errr ... I did lose out. I was without both my money and the item for 3 weeks. So I lost "interest" for the period, and I didn't have the means to buy what I'd wanted ... because ebay didn't respond effectively.0 -
Even if they did reply there is no guarantee that the seller ever put the correct address on file.0

I want them to confirm the address i was given by the seller is correct (unlikely i know). As eBay have assured me that no-one can register on eBay with a fake address and that there are measures in place to stop this. Therefore if eBay confirm or give me an alternative address he registered with i can start small claims court proceedings. If no measures are in place then anyone setup an account with a fake address and scam away!!!0 -
Ebay only hand over an address to the courts / solicitor with a court order or the police.
They should have told you that.0 -

No ... "LOST OUT". I lost money. Fact.
(And obviously ebay "made money" from the interest that I lost because they were sat on my money for 3 weeks - so they were clearly in a huge rush to sort things out. Not)0 -

I would suspect they are unable to confirm or deny the address without intervention from the police.
Data Protection laws are stringent.
Have you reported it to the police? Although you paid willingly, if the account was indeed hacked you may gain some help via them.0
