  • Hi all,

And firstly, a MASSIVE thanks to you all for taking the time to post and support me. As a 'secret smoker' I'm on this journey on my own so it means so much to have your help xxx

Does my husband know that I smoke? Probably! It's a bit like Father Christmas - I'm pretty sure my youngest no longer believes but I'm not going to tell him unless he asks and he's not going to tell me unless i ask so we carry on in our little stalemate. My hubby must know - I must STINK sometimes and he's never smoked a fag in his life! -but he says nothing and so neither do I.

But I know that I am sick, sick, SICK of the lying and the conniving and the scheming and the deceit of smoking in secret. I spend SO MUCH ENERGY plotting my little pitstops throughout the day so that I can satisfy my revolting habit. Plus my daughter especially would be devastated if she knew that I still smoked - and she has come close to catching me on a number of occasions.

Anyway, the only bonuses of having smoked in secret for a number of years are that a) my intake is not huge (12 or 15 a day) and b) I am used to going for quite long periods without a smoke so all in all, at this early stage (2 days, 13 hours and 8 minutes!) I am finding quitting uncomfortable rather than agony!

And when (not if) I come out the other side I shall never, never, ever (please God!) be daft enought to fall for that 'just one fag at a party' mind trick.

Will log in later but thanks again to you all, my secret buddies!

    Hmmmmm

Not often i'm posting at this time but thought i had to :D

Was out with a load of my friends tonight for a ska night..

One of my best friends (i've known her hubby since he was born and her for about 20 odd years) said YUCK to me .. everyone, including her hubby had nipped out for a ciggie and i popped a murray mint in my gob  she turned away from me and said YUCK???:confused:

Apparently it reminded her of long car journey's???

she did admit that it was better than smelling of ciggies BUT for her to say YUCK?? This is someone who I think of as family!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

    :(:(:(

    Anyway rant over..

    P.S Any other blokes like Wall-E? (:o )

Hi Feedie,:hello: good to see you again, goodness knows how long ago it was that you quit, but I know you're totally thrilled that you did! Amazing to see the distance you've come after Waspy put your first post on. Very well done!!! ........Excellent joop, it was marvellous to hear you didn't miss them on going out, wonderful news!:T

Hi again little lily. Well, no matter what they think or quite possibly know, at least you're doing all the family proud now by giving it your best and QUITTING for good!!! You sound as though you're determined to give it everything you have so do it for them as much as you! :j

Me a star?....be blowed Waspy, you're doing remarkably well here yourself and giving loads of great advice and support, and you're still going through it so it's far easier for me anyway. All the best for you too.

All good wishes everyone, and for any lurkers, if you're at all tempted, then please....come on and give it your best shot, you may easily amaze yourself - and your loved ones!!!

    Sue

PS. What on earth is a ska night Waspy?? One of my 2 can't stand the smell of mints for the same reason, reminders of car journeys. It certainly beats any smell of baccy, smoke or disgusting ash trays , that's for sure! Why just blokes and Wall-E? Saw a clip on amazon tother night, but not sure about it.

    Sue

Cheers Sue  .. it does help that i've been here before though! I know I "failed" last time but I know how hard it is and by making light of it and joking etc I hope that some of the fellow quitters realise that by laughing at the "voices" and accepting them for what they are (just voices) they can get past the worst of it and enjoy life without them :confused: :j :j

That's exactly how it comes across Waspy, a perfect explanation for all to understand what they're going through and why. Blowed if I can work out the ska bit, I either must be mad too, or not at all!!! Naive that's me! :A

Aaaaaaaargh! Why don't I practise what I preach? Went to a dinner party last week and smoked not one but 5 or 6 fags:mad: - basically because the host smoked, offered them around (the dinner table) and weak ole me accepted. After all I said about not having even one puff - I can't believe I did that having given up for 23 days. Suffice to say that I was sooooo disgusted with myself that I haven't smoked another since (5 days ago) because I really haven't wanted to - the head was thick the following morningicon9.gif.

Anyway, keep going Little Lily. I think you're right not telling anyone one way or t'other - it does take the pressure off. I did it the Allen Carr way a few years ago and lasted about 14 months .... until just that one puff. Everything he wrote made pure sense to me and I do keep referring back to his book every so often.

Thanks as always Sue - perhaps you should write a book too!:D

Hethmar says it all really - an inspiration.:A
Loved your picture Waspy. You are also inspirational:T

Keep going everyone - don't do what I did.

well mintoze, i'm afraid i did do what you did, but without the excuse of peer pressure :(

i was doing so well, celebrated my fortnight-iversary on friday, then got really drunk after work and had a rolly. i was so cross with myself, my friend was urging me not to and that i was doing so well but once i had it in my head i couldn't get rid of the idea. and i destroyed my friends pen by chewing and snapping it to bits, oops!
i was furious when i woke up saturday morning (once i'd got rid of the headache), what a waste of money and my hard work. i didn't post on here becuase i was really down about it and wasn't sure what to do about it (i still had the baccy in my coat pocket and was thinking 'maybe i should wait til after christmas').

BUT, i haven't had another since, and have now binned the tobacco, papers, filters everything (as i said, what a waste of cash!). i hope it's the right choice.

so i'm back to the beginning, day 3 smokefree :o . i feel confident that i won't find it so hard as the first week, it's just drinking (and even being in the pub) that's hard. i'm going to try as much as possible to avoid similar situations, but it's christmas party season so think i'll have to come up with some better ways to take my mind off it!

well done everyone for staying quit and mintoze, try not to beat yourself up about it - i'm trying not to.

might scroll back through the thread and read some of my own advice!!!

    bs xx

Well, at least you had the one then realised what a mistake it was. Just forget it and carry on as before. Good luck. Have you tried aids like patches or inhalers?
