Wonderful joop - its amazing how quickly things can change once you stop pumping the smoke into your system. I did have a list from somewhere about the changes/time frames. Ill try to find it and put it on here
Think there may be something in post #1 about it:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Another amazing day for quitters and those helping alike! You're doing an excellent job here hethmar, it's terrific to see such motivation - and you --> TNG, re what you said on Monday (I think) about not having anything to add to what I say - don't you believe it! After that you wrote a wonderful piece to who ever it was you were talking to, great advice!!! :T Hiya Waspy! You're really amazing with your attitude, I'm certainly keeping 'em crossed for you this time! Oh it's so very good when that blessed voice in your head stops nagging away at you. Keep up the power within Waspy!
You too joop! :j Another very positive quitter, take it all day by day, but always keep your eye on that finishing line ...it's such a very beautiful to be at.
A superb achievement Karen and what a joy for your dad to 'see' you having quit them! What inspiration to drive you on, you also hethmar. Why ever is it that even though our loved ones pass away because of such evil illnesses, the first thinkg we reach for is a ciggie?I was exactly the same when my dad-in-law died, though it worked further down the track .... once I'd terrified myself into doing so!
Sexy Legs, your post was delightful to read and yes,you should be so terribly proud at having got through a rotten day, very well done indeed!!! :T Keep that day in mind ...whilst also looking ahead and planning your treat as a non-smoker at the weekend. Do that every week and focus on your plans, NOT your past! Thanks so much for making my day for me.:j
All best wishes to everyone, you've all such wonderful successes to be so proud of.

Ugh I'm having the dreams/nightmares really badly at the moment, keep waking up convinced I've been sacked or something else really bad has happened, not enjoying it!The size of a glory hole in an open pit should not be greater than the cross-section of the haul trucks that dump into it. Hi TDQO, so sorry to read that. Unfortunately, for a little while it's a very common thing we all complain about. Are you on Champix or anything similar? I'm afraid the best I can advise is a bath and a mug of hot chocolate and a little light reading.
Each time you wake from one of them, stay in bed and really focus your mind on a beautiful scene or memories you hold dear in your heart. Try this:
You're in a beautiful forest glade, the sun isn't hot, just lovely and warm with a gentle breeze causing the leaves to sway and gently rustle above you. a little way in the distance there are deer totally unaware of you, one scratching round it's ear with it's hind leg, another sniffing the air as a young fawn gently nestles in the grass close to it's mum. Birds are all around, some singing above you, others pecking away at fallen seeds. Another spies a small puddle and goes to it and splashes away to it's hearts content, others soon see the fun he's having and join in. You even hear the gentle croaking of frogs in the small patch of marshland, all God's creatures lapping up the warm sunshine just as you are.
If you favour the sea then, still on a warm, sunny day lie with your hands acting as a pillow under your head and watch as the waves gently dash in then roll away again. Distant gulls are calling as they go near boats to seek for fish. Childrens' laughter is a little way off , they gaze out to sea and lick at their ice creams, dreaming of times they'll have when they can swim. Focus on that beautiful warmth and as the sea rolls in breathe in deeply, then as it rolls away, breathe out, letting the tide take away all your tension.
Sleep well TDQO, I wish you peaceful sleep and relaxation.

Thanks for that Sue but I'm far more likely to think of a young (not too young lol) lady than a beautiful scene!
I'm not taking any sort of meds, only used the gum for a few days. 3wks today it's been...fun times...The size of a glory hole in an open pit should not be greater than the cross-section of the haul trucks that dump into it. Hi Debbie,
Its a month for us and Schmickle! How are you feeling?
I am not thinking of it so much now but need to start getting fit! I haven't put on that much weight either.....just a bit.
Keep going everyone,
Kate xx
Hi Kate
I'm not doing too badly, I don't think about smoking as much these days but I'll admit I still miss it sometimes! Sometimes if I'm harrassed or stressed at work, I really want to smoke, but I'm determined I'm not going to go back to square one and have to quit all over again!
Well done to you, and Schmickle and all the other quitters! :j

Thanks Debbie.
I'm just like you - thinking abotu it much less, but every now and then - I was in a shop the other day and was convinved I needed a new lighter??!!
I've certainly been helped by major distractions - first quit whilst on holiday then had a bad back, now have a nasty bug that's going around here - bad cold but also with D&V - nice! Last thing I want right now is a yucky cig!
Hang on in there everybody - it really DOES get easier:p

hi everyone!
half way through my second week and doing well. as schickle says, circumstances have helped me out, i've been ill and it has definitely helped with the hankerings...
had a little 'no-smoking' moment earlier on today: walked past 2 people outside the tube station, one asking the other for a light. my first thought was that i was glad i didn't have to hang around in teh cold to finish my ciggie before going inside, and the second was that if someone had asked me for a light, i wouldn't have had one. i really felt like a 'non-smoker'!!
positive thoughts for everybody - i'm off to try out my new relaxation cd bsx0 -
I only pop onto this thread once in a blue moon.
I just wanted to say good luck to all of you who are trying to quit/have quit/are planning to quit - it isn't an easy thing to do but it is something you really can achieve.
It has been over two years since I gave up. I don't say this in an attempt to boast, but rather to say that if an average guy like me can do it, then so can you.
All the best.

When you quit smoking, your body immediately starts to recover.
- within the first hour, your body begins to get rid of tobacco poisons
- after eight hours, levels of nicotine and carbon monoxide in your blood will have halved
- after a few weeks you should notice you have a better sense of taste and smell, your lungs are clearer and you have more energy. (If you have smoked heavily and for many years, this can take longer).
- your risk of having a heart attack is halved after one or two years
- in the longer term, stopping smoking reduces the risk of lung and other cancers, heart attack, stroke and chronic lung disease. After 5 to 15 years, the level of risk returns to that of a non-smoker.
- a better sense of taste and smell
- more energy
- more money - you could save the money you would have spent on cigarettes and use it to treat yourself
- more confidence in yourself - giving up smoking is a real achievement
