Viv- so sorry for your friend. What an awful thing to happen.
This is very much a wake up call for me this morning.
This is THE reason that I'm giving up. Yes, all the rest of it (money, smell, etc etc) is important but my health is one thing I do not want to suffer from the foul tasting !!!!!!! sticks. My Dad died of cancer too.
Feeling a bit silly that I got so worked up last night but I didn't cave- THANK GOD. Thanks so much again YM and mrbadexample- you got me through it last night. Thank god for this thread and all of the wonderful people on it. :iloveyou: all !

OK, so thanks to some banter on here yesterday, I started to seriously think about quitting the stinking, filthy, foul 'habit' I call smoking. Last night I read half of Allen Carr's book, and although he has rather a patronising style, I think what he was saying has started to sink in. Every cig I'v smoked since I put the book down has left a foul taste in my mouth, and I haven't been able to smoke a full one since.
I'll finish the book tonight; could tomorrow be the first day of my smoke-free life? I do hope so.
And if Allen doesn't work, I can always turn to Neil Casey (kindly donated to me by Lurkio in our wee challenge yesterday! Thanks Lurkio!)
Just want to say well done to Basilcat for not succumbing - when you feel like you need a ciggy just think about those of us who are still hooked and how desperately we want to stop. You were like that once, but now you're not. You are in control again! I envy youLBM: 14.01.08 - Debt at 25.04.08: £7420.925.06.10: 3200.00 :T I'm over half way there!!! :j

Seriously well done Basilcat - that was a fantastic thing you did (or rather didn't do)
Really really well done

Hey! There's nowt wrong with specs!!!!! I'm the tender age of 28 and 10/12, and have been a spec wearer for three years. Personally I think they make you look intelligent and dignified - unless you have a penchant for the Dame Edna Everage variety! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:LBM: 14.01.08 - Debt at 25.04.08: £7420.925.06.10: 3200.00 :T I'm over half way there!!! :j

Oh Basilcat, are you trying to give me heart attack, I've just read through all of last night's posts and when I got to your post about having 10 fags in your hand i shouted 'no' really loudly (I'm at work
).
Well done for fighting the urge and not giving in, I'm really proud of you :T
Fantastic advice from Mr BE about having a glass of wine - It's a trick I used myself in the early days of quitting.
Hello Mr BE, have read your posts over on Old Style and they had me in stiitches - welcome, your humour has found another good home!
I'm on day 21 now and I've saved £61.00 so far.
I still haven't got round to buying some running shoes, but it's at the top of my list of things to do.0
