Morning all, welcome to the newbies
MJay, just a blip, ignore it. It's just down to habit and that takes a lot longer to kick than the physical addiction. Don't ever become complacent and always be prepared when being around cigs or smokersYou are doing great
Cath, Oops, JoeHel, Mumzy, dlb, purplecatlover and everyone else I've missed, it's so great to see this thread thriving and so good to see so much support for one anotherkeep it up!!

Mjay - as everybody has said its just a blip, overall you are doing really well so dont be too hard on yourself and just carry on with the rest of your life - smoke free
any by the way I wouldnt have needed a drag on a fag to get me on stage - I would have needed at least 5 vodkas
:T Day 20 for the New Year Quitters :T well done to dlb ( I wont hold the 'clean' gene against you) Thanks for the support Jo1972 and JoeHel.
Now I havent had a cough on this quit attempt but have in the past. I had a sore throat for a couple of days though and did feel a bit wheezy but that seems to have passed now. I have now gone 3 days patch free so I think that means that I am not totally nicotine free
How are you doing purplecatlover?
Have a good day everybody :j:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Morning everyone!
MJay. Two things. First - total respect for coming on here and 'fessing up. You know it was a mistake and a complete waste of time. While it's still quite fresh in your mind you should think hard about how it felt, tasted and smelled. I bet it did nothing for you at all. You are NOT starting all over again because you now have knowledge you didn't have a month ago. You know that you have lived perfectly well for nearly 3 weeks without fags. The worst thing EVER would be if your head made some connection of that ciggie with the buzz you must have felt by singing in front of everyone. Because there was NO connection! You did that amazing thing all by yourself without the prop of that revolting drug and that must have been such an amazing feeling. That's the second thing - WELL DONE YOU!! OMG I could never do something like that!! Believe it or not, I'm WAY too shy (yes, you can stop laughing TNG)...
Donna, yes you will cough a bit more for a few days hun. When a person smokes, their lungs produce a fluid to try and protect them from the tar and chemicals being inhaled. There's a "palmolive bottle" experiment on WhyQuit.com which shows that when you take a drag of a cigarette, the smoke you then breathe out is only 10% of the smoke from that drag - the rest is still inside your lungs!! It takes a few days for your brain to realise that you've stopped poisoning yourself and it's time to switch off the lung protection because you don't need it any more. There's also a lot of accumulated tar to get rid of! Over the next 9 month the tiny little hairs in your lungs and throat (I think they are called cilia?) will regrow and continue the cleaning process of your lungs. It's ALL GOOD! But the cough does start to go very quickly. I'm nearly at 3 months now and I hardly cough at all any more. Oh, and the little hairs in your throat and lungs are what helps stop germs and bugs getting into you and causing coughs and colds. They are part of your immune system which you haven't had the whole time you've smoked because smoking destroys them. That's one of the reasons smokers get so many coughs and colds!
oops, it take three days to get nicotine out of your system hun. Apparently drinking acidic fruit juices can help "draw" the nicotine out and speed up the process. So yes, you should be pretty much free of nicotine now. Any cravings will definitely start to ease off after today and things get a LOT calmer. I couldn't believe the difference. I know it doesn't mean much because you don't even know me but I am so proud of you for stopping the NRT stuff and trusting your own body to tell you what it needs and wants. The most powerful thing we've all got is our brains and if you carry on thinking positively about what you are doing then you will just feel happier every day from now on. I'm still on cloud nine and you couldn't pay me £1k to light up now.
Hope everyone else is doing okay.QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -
Wrestled over posting this.... Went to a big 'Do' on Friday.... Sang live to an audience (first time in my life...) and had a few puffs off a friend's cig afterwards....
Oh, Poo....Starting all over again...
My mantra: "I am choosing not to smoke... again".... My motto: "I'll never give up giving up"
What did it taste like MJay after not having one for so long? Was is revolting?
I am sure we imagine having a ciggie would be a lot better than the reality.
Never mind, perhaps that will help to convince you how horrible they are!Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Hi, thanks for all the links at the beginning - I smoke 25-30 a day, but have tried cutting down. Its so damn hard though. My partner doesnt smoke which makes it even worse! Anyway, those links provide some motivation if nothing else.0

Hello everyone,
Hope your all ok and all doing well.Havent posted in 2 days only coz Ive not been feeling well(that time of the month) but i still havent smoked and im not using patches either.I am using the inhaler but not as much and i am feeling better.I have a horrible taste in my mouth tho, dry mouth when i was up and still vivid dreams so im hoping its all associated with the no smoking. Im not getting hardly any cravings now apart from when i have finished eating.I have been really lazy tho and i know i need to get off my back side and do things but its the weekend so im taking it easy lol.
Well done to you all that have just stopped, considering stopping and are fellow non smokers-you should all be proud of yourselves.
Hugs to u all x0 -
15 years ago, I was told to get cheaper term insurance I would have to be tobacco free for three days, I quit on the spot cold turkey. I wonder how much money I have not thrown away to date.0

Hi fluffymummy! Cutting down is actually HARDER than quitting... you make your drug fix more scarce and every ciggie you DO have seems even more precious. It is often harder for "social" smokers to quit than full-time smokers, because every one of their ciggies is a lot more "special" to them.
I was a 30 a day smoker for 22 years and if someone had told me 3 months ago that I would be a non-smoker and be HAPPY about it I would have laughed in their face.
All I said at the start was that I would take it one day at a time and I would be POSITIVE about it. i.e. if I had a craving or felt stressed I would MAKE myself think how happy I was that I didn't need ciggies any more. It's worked. I'm quit and happy. Seriously - nobody who knows me can believe it. I know it's a cliche, but I've never met anyone who was more addicted than me. If I can do it - honestly ANYONE can.QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0
