Well I managed to fall of the wagon again after a miserable 14 hours. I don't know why I can't give up, I am by no means a weak willed person. In the past 12 months I managed to give up alcohol which was no small feat for a person who binge drank for 10 years every weekend. I also gave up caffeine and also went on a diet and lost 2.5 stone in weight so I am not weak willed.

Last night I don't know if yous experienced this but I actually dreamt about smoking, then you wake up and realize your of them and you get depressed, I had a very disturbed nights sleep. Allen Carr talks about this in his book but he refaires to it as a nightmare and you feel a sense of relief once you wake up and realize its only a dream and I know what he means as I went through this when giving up alcohol but its the total reverse with smoking.

The more methods I try and fail at the more frustrated and angry I get, you look at all the reviews Allen Carrs and Paul Mckenna's books get, some 90% positive yet they do nothing for me, and looking at these horror stories on these smoking websites also make me frustrated as you know you do need to give up but can't, so I am lost as to what to try next.

I had a friend who gave up by smoking 10 fags in a row and making himself violently sick, I suppose it stands to reason as he created a neurological path linking smoking to pain instead of pleasure and basic psychology tells us that humans do more to avoid pain than we do to gain pleasure.

So basically I am no further forward.

Hi everyone, just thought I would drop in. For those of you who are currently off the weed, well done and I hope you are enjoying the money you have saved. If any one has tried to quit and gone back to them just remember you are trying to stop taking a highly addictive drug, some people will find it easier than others to quit but PLEASE don't stop trying, any of you. I had my last cig over two years ago now and STILL very occasionally crave a fag (ironically its not when I smell cigarettes as I now dislike the smell on other people! Wierd or what)
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
  • Nirelandguy hi:hello:

The reason you are posting on here means that you do want to give up... I don't know the answer of HOW you are going to do it but like tealady says- don't stop trying. I am sure you will find the solution to kicking it- whatever it is..

I have just booked 2 tickets to we willl rock you in london next sat for OH and I as its our anniversary- cost 125 pounds... I reckon thats a months fags and booze money much better spent this month !!

nirelandguy, my heart goes out to you. You just need to find whatever it is that will "click" in your head and I promise you CAN do it!! Like I said before, nicotine is indiscriminate and it hooks very intelligent and strong willed people too! It does NOT mean you are weak willed because you haven't found the right trigger to help you stop yet.

I read the Allen Carr book and it gave me lots to think about but didn't quite get to me the happy place I needed to be to quit. WhyQuit.com did that.

What is your MAIN motivation for wanting to stop? Health worries, money, quality of life? Think hard about that and then that's a good place to start and find the information that can reinforce that motivation.

Smokers do not crave cigarettes any more than heroin addicts crave a needle or chewing tobacco users crave that revolting lump of brown leaves that they chew. What we crave is the drug inside. The cigarette or needle is just the delivery device.

The first part of ANY quit is acceptance that you are a drug addict, and addicted to the most powerful drug there is.

But millions of people HAVE managed to quit (whether first, second, third or whatever attempt) and are infinitely more happy without that drug than they were with it.

    You honestly CAN do it.

That's enough of the sarcasm thanks, you know it's difficult for me to get on these days. I do read from work but really shouldn't actually log on as our server goes through the local council and apparently some staff have been picked up on their internet usage, even normal sites

I'm not bad, meant to be working, but obviously I'm not

Just sat here trying to meal plan for next week and save some money

    sorry, hun :o

had to be done, though. Should be doing the same myself......

what would be the difference if you were logged on or not? The tinternet police will record which sites you visit, not necessarily what you do there....:confused:
