Hi everyone......
Thought I should join this thread as I officially Gave Up Smoking on 1st Jan after 21 years of smoking (I'm now 34). Not feeling like a problem and very positive but just wanted to ask everyone a personal question.
Does anyone else have a problem with going for a number 2 (sorry everyone) after stopping ? I always do and it gets me smoking one as I feel so awful.
Please can anyone help with any ideas to keep regular ??

Unlike 'the Brick', I have heard of this problem and know of several people who experienced similar. Smoking acts like a drug on your system and can have a sedative effect on your gut. The doctor told me this whilst lecturing me on the dangers of smoking during pregnancy, many years ago. You don't know your system is sedated until you quit sedating it and then find out your diet has been playing havoc with your system for years. You need to increase circulation by taking regular exercise, drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of healthy roughage. Smokers should always supplement their Vitamin C intake, as well, apparently, but I do not advocate pumping yourself full of supplements. Just drink plenty, exercise and try to stick to a healthy diet with extra roughage until your gut returns to normal.
Bricky, if trainspotting works for you then perhaps you shouldn't stand so close to the track and perhaps even try prunes next timeI reserve the right not to spend.

Sorry BrickingIt, I thought you were being sarcastic and literally meant trainspotting, as in spotting trains and standing too close to the tracks, cos that's scary and dangerous!

Yes I have heard of this, just hope it doesn't happen to me though! Drawing on that first cig of the day almost has a laxative type effect - gives an instant urge to go!! I suppose you will just have to try and eat more roughage and drink lots of water. Giving up will be much more beneficial for you that keeping smoking purely based on the fact that it keeps you going. Perhaps try Al-Bran instead - I mean eat it, not smoke it!
