The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

  • Hi everyone,
The last couple of days have been really hard and I don't really know what's changed.
All I can do is think about smoking and I can't remember why I am doing this.

I am snapping at the kids more and I have barely spoke to my husband apart from to have a go at him for no real reason. The children have no idea why I'm like this, they are 8,5,3 and 3 months.
I just feel sorry for them and I feel like the worst mother in the world. I am normally quite a postive person but this is really getting to me.

Please just remind me why I'm doing this, I can't focus on why I wanted to give up.

    Hi mum,

I get like this after a period time, I think I become a little complacent about my quit and when I get a smoking thought or 'craving' it knocks me for six a little and I don't know how to deal with it.

Go back to post number one on this thread and remind yourself why you're doing it and remind yourself how far you have come. Maybe go back on this thread to where you joined and read the support you've been given, that always does the trick for me :D

Failing that, use this thread as a venting board and rant away :D:D

  • Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well.

Mumofcookers, sorry to hear that you've had a few tough days. Since it's during the stressful times that most relapses tend to occur, maybe you should give yourself a nice treat to relieve the pressure and raise your spirits (a trip to the cinema, a pampering session?). Also remind yourself of some of the reasons why you're doing this in the first place: desire to improve your health and the health of those around you; you'll have more money to spend on yourself and your children; you don't want to set a bad example to your children (while i don't blame him entirely, i know that one of the reasons (conscious or unconscious) why i started smoking was because my late father was a heavy smoker (he eventually died from lung cancer due to his habit)). In my own experience, i feel particularly chuffed when i've managed to get through the tough times without smoking because i know that my resolve to quit is growing stronger while the hold that nicotine had on me is growing weaker.

Jo, your excitement about the concert gave me the urge to dig out some of my Queens tapes; i'm glad i did since i'd forgotten how good they are. I was listening to Era Vulgaris for most of yesterday evening...at deafening volume....i'm certain my neighbours were glad to have my musical tastes benevolently thrust upon their eardrums!

    Stay strong everyone!

  • ^^^Thanks for the link, Jo. Now to see if I can persuade some of my stoner mates from uni to join me at the concert; i don't hold out much hope of that since they have all depressingly become middle aged long before their time!

  • Hello everyone I'm back:p :p:p

Well done to everyone - it appears we're all doing really well.

Strangely, I had the hardest week yet. I got sent to Paris for a week (which sounds great until you realise that you have far too much work for one week, you are the only proper English speaking person in the team and the rest of the team are personal friends).

Wow, everyone there smokes! You feel like an outcast if you don't smoke. You walk in a bar and everyone is smoking. you walk into a restaurant and you get asked if you would like a smoking table etc. etc. (The non-smoking bit of our restaurant was teeny-weeny)

Anyway, almost had a wobble, but didn't. Had to use loads of will power and expensive phone calls home....

I've been sent back out again on Sunday but should be easier this week - er indoors is coming too.

    :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T

    Hey all
    Your all quiet today
  • Hiya quitters,
I have had a really up and down time. Daughter got married of course she was a fantastic beutiful bride. Ex husband was there he was a git to me and made me cry but I did not cry in front of anyone.
This husband [I call him my presant husband to keep him on his toes] upset me.
2 days ago my dad died.
That is the chronological order of events.
I have not smoked at all.
So feel very confident that I am not going to now.
If I can so can you all. Give it a go. Try Champix, worked for me and husbands ex wife too with very little effort.
I can't for the moment think of my quit date but it is the same as IDA's.
Take care all, keep on quitting,
    ILA
