We use the wood pellets, recently started getting it from home bargains, £2.99 for a 15 litre bag which is fab. Only tried it because we had a kitten who was eating the other types but glad we did :-)
  • Another who switched from wood pellets to clumping ..... Biokats is absolutely fantastic

I too had the tracking issue with OKO - really not into sharing my bed with bits of litter  so ......

Re trays, recently bought a huge open one, hoping my 2 would share a tray but fighting resumed (why sharing a tray results in this, I've no idea!) so now have one of their old enormous covered trays back out - as well as the new ginormous tray.

Not sure where to go from here but will need to replace the new ginormous open one with a smaller one - it just takes far too much litter to fill (would've been OK if they'd shared that one but too much with a 2nd tray to fill & keep on the go too!) - however, wee cat seems to like the open tray (and no smells with the Biocats ;)so I'm happy) so will have to hunt around for a smaller one *sigh*

  • I've recently switched to clean and tidy as well http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clean-n-Tidy-Adult-Everyday-Cat-Litter/dp/B0061KHSM6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1361700615&sr=8-4

It's the best clumping litter I've found, but the dust from it is a bit annoying. If I invested in an enclosed tray it would probably solve the problem - and the sweeping up after pawing madly problem - but an open tray is very easy to see to scoop out as and when. It's a dilemma!
  • I'm a complete convert to World's Best cat litter, as mentioned in your original post. It IS expensive, but the big bonus for us is not only is it clumping, it's also completely flushable. Everything goes down the loo.
We have one big, tall tomcat and have a giant sized covered litter tray with the flap removed (it confuses him!) It hardly tracks at all and he seems to enjoy the digging. He also enjoys standing in the tray and peeing horizontally - hence the need for a cover! Fortunately, he's so far managed to avoid peeing out the hole at the front.

Ok, I need to change from clumping to non clumpng as our kitten is most likely digesting it, I was going to wait until I had finished my supply of Biokat but I think it would be best to do it sooner rather than later.

He (for some reason only known to him) like to play with water, which isn't a problem until he uses the litter tray. Obviously because his feet are wet the litter sticks and then he cleans it off. I have, when I'm in, been cleaning his paws myself but obviously when I'm not there he does it.

OH had him at the vets yesterday as he's been sneezing a lot and brought food back up (he did it on saturday and yesterday) and I was worried that it was down to him digesting (all be it a small amount) litter. The vet thinks that it is all down to a change in his food (we've recently put him on adult food as kitten food just doen't fill him even though he's only 5 months) and that it should settle down.

I myself am unhappy with what was said (OH took him as I was away) but what do I know, he's generally fine in himself so maybe's I'm just worrying too much.

Anyway back to the point, I have decided that as much as I love using Biokat I'm going to go back to using the wood pellets :( so does anyone have any advice on a good (and preferably cheap) brand of wood pellets. I have used Tesco and Asda's own brand and do not really rate them, they seem to go really powdery when wet.

We did use best pet but the petshop where we used to get it from no longer stock it, I also had a look on Zooplus but they don't seem to have much choice.
  • Ok I have tried the Hugro litter for a few days mixed with oko gold and it seems to have sorted the tracking problems! ( two very long haired maine coons and 2 savannahs that love to trail litter everywhere they go!).

the Hugro reminds me of my childhood rabbits hutch ( smells of rabbits!). If I'm honest....it lasts ok, keeps smells down ok and doesn't track, clumps well, but I personally don't like how you can't tell if its been used as the colour is fairly dark to start with ( I'm used to looking for the litter getting darker when it's peed on!).

If it wasn't for the cost - I'd stick with oko gold cos it doesnt track and is brilliant! Guess I'll just have to time it so I bulk buy when it's cheaper!
:rotfl:If it weren't for stress I'd have no energy at all. First rule of acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.;)
Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:

Pets at Home does big bags of wood pellet cat litter - was using it for ages with no problem will few years back they changed, darker in colour and kind of worse quality.

I know lots of people complained so perhaps they reverted back to good old stuff?

I was using this one (for cats that is)

  • Chick crumb has been mentioned earlier.

I use it as it's now available from Pets At Home online, free delivery over £29. Currently 3 bags for 2 at £5.99 a bag. Look for it in the poultry feed section.

It's a clumping litter made from ground (sweet) corn cores, exactly the same stuff as World's Best, but is 1/3 the price. Won't turn your cat's feet pink.

Clumps, flushes, biodegrades and as it is designed to be animal feed won't hurt kitty if she eats a little.

Buy a litter mat if the tracking is annoying, I've found this cuts it down quite a lot. Zooplus have them for £3.99. Semi-circular made of rubber twists that catch the crumbs.

I've heard clumping is potentially a health issue as if your cat eats it, it will clump in their stomach.

It would take a particularly 'special' cat to start eating the litter mind!

It's more of a problem if you also have a dog.

Thats basicly kittens. If they eat it as kittens sometimes do it can clog their insides and can be dangerous. Older cats are fine. I would go for a none clumping while they are young but clumping is much easier when they are older.
I use cats best oko, it;s brilliant and lasts for ages. Not to pricey either.
