deep wide and long but open for my boys...
  • I have 3 different litter trays,
an enclosed one (which hardly gets used as a loo, generally Salem uses it as a get away from Gizmo by putting his paw against the door when he's had enough),
a deep open one which always ends up surrounded by litter as Gizmo likes to dig and dig and dig (I'm sure you get the point) when he's done his business.
Then we have a high backed one from Zooplus (http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes/litter_tray_cat_toilet/328076) which is used the most and is a lot less messy than the open one (Gizmo still manages to get the litter out) and holds a lot of litter so it's nice and deep. I think I may invest in a couple of more of these.

I think it is the combination of 'Digger' cats and Zara's litter-spreading-paws that is your problem! :p

Could be but does not happen with other litters hmmmmm

OKO is very light so yes possibly Zara carrying whatever Macius diggs out on her fluffy paws everywhere...
  • a little off the original topic but still regarding litter trays. For those of you with more than one (and that are open) where do yuo keep them?

We have once in the hall (covered), one in the front room and one in the kitchen (high backed one), but I'm not keen on having it in the kitchen. The bathroom is too small for a litter tray, the only place it fits is next to the bath. I was thinking of putting the high backed one in the hall, the covered one in the front room (it was originally in there and was used slightly more) but I have no idea where to put the third one.

The front room is a front room/diner.

    I have tried:

Pettex Premium cat clumping litter (big blue bag 20kg) off Amazon: £9.
Doesn't track that much at all, only find it in the bathroom which is nice, but doesn't really clump, I'd give it 3/10 for its clumping abilities.

I also tried Bob Martin's clumping one from Poundland, what a bargain, much the same result as above.

Best for clumping is Clean and Tidy 15kg £11 on Amazon which clumps very well.

My cat doesn't seem that bothered which I use.

The other good one I tried is from Sophisticat and called City Cristals so it's a bit different. It doesn't really get tracked about and it changes colours where's its been used so it's easy to idfentify what is clean and what isn't. Pricey though I think. £3 bag will fill the litter tray one time. Cat was a bit sceptical about this one as it sounds very crunchy when stepped on but did use it ok.

    Trial and error methinks.

Oko Plus....clumps well, no odour and lasts for ages.
(GR will tell you that it's tracking drives her mad....I don't have that problem)
It is biodegradable and also flushable so poops go in the loo and the rest on the compost bin.

I discovered Oko after buying a Litter Champ from zooplus.co.uk and read the reviews which it was mentioned about being good with it.

I have a big fat tom cat who was ex-outdoors, but became an indoors, and frankly would leave me lumpy pee soup (and not the nice one with ham!) with any litter i tried, and I went through them all from tescos, even catsan.

I now wage psychological warfare on him as he's convinced with one widdle or poo he's "used" it, therefore he "needs" new stuff. So I basically pick out the bits once or twice a day, and then freshener it with the litter freshener, and all of a sudden it's brand new and fresh. Darn cat! by and by, I dont really need to know that I'm poisoning my cat, and being a horrible owner by using so much. In a year and a half it hasn't hurt him yet. And opinions differ, as in clumping is bad because the random chance your cat eats it, well any cat littler is bad in that case, so you should use pee pads :P

I tend to find all cat litter can be trackable, but this one is alight, cept my cat shoots out the little box, and explodes it out the front, easy with a wee portable hover though.

I do not get 4-6 weeks from it, but I get at least 2-3 weeks, which is more than i was before, which was a few days before having to empty.

Depending if you have a poop box, or a pee box, or a both box (cts preference times however many boxes you have) it will last differently, as obviously pee will take it up more, than poop, so if you try it, you need to just watch and change those more often.

I have tried both wood pellets and paper pellets of various brands .. Unfortunately my little one always decides its a really fun game to get the (clean ones thankfully) out of the litter tray and play with them like a cat toy!

As we have tiles in the bathroom, kitchen and dining area it rolls which he finds great fun .. I don't have quite as much fun picking it all up!

Now we use clumping .. It all tracks though.. Thinks its the fluffy paws as they are all indoor cats..

Have tried lots of those too.. The cheaper ones clumped very heavily and smelt a lot and were dusty ..

The finer grained ones clump better but track ..

Have also tried tue crystal ones.. Very expensive as I went through very fast...

Am now using a lavender scented one that is fine grained .. Only downside is it does track .. Not helped by enthusiastic digging by my ginger boy! Who sprays it outside the tray ..
