Right i'm back following a few calculations....

Firstly, the emergency fund of £1k. As we don't need to make a mortgage payment in Feb (March's will be bigger to compensate) I had put some cash aside. I've reworked the budget and now that all DDs are set... I've managed to fill the emergency fund :D (I've encorporated the larger inital payment into my figures).

So, emergency fund down. Just the CC and OHs loan to go. I've been working through the numbers and come up with a "DFD" of 1st September - roughly 6 months away. This seems doable, but with our new house there will be unforeseen expenses so this is still an ambitious target.

    Plan in numbers:

    Credit Card Loan

    01/03/15 2700 2100
    01/04/15 2250 1800
    01/05/15 1800 1500
    01/06/15 1350 1200
    01/07/15 900 900
    01/08/15 450 600
    01/09/15 0 300 (ask for settlement figure)

  • Exciting times ttc! Hopefully that will keep you motivated.
both oh and I said last night how little dude is sooo not a baby any more and we're both getting broody again. We'd love another but think we need a but bigger house..
keep focussed and you'll get there and then can get the family started :)

    Aww thanks Peaty!

So the 1st of the month has rolled around again and I know February is a short one, but woah! So much is going on. We've moved into the house fully now which is scary (and expensive!) and I've been trying to revise for my exam coming up in mid-March. Revision however keeps being put off in favour of house things - this needs to stop! I was also really ill with a chest infection which didn't help with the house or cima, I'm only just starting to feel better now really and my energy levels are still low. I must've been ill - I didn't even keep up with my mse subscriptions!

    Anyway scores on the doors:

    OH Car Loan: £900/£3000 (30%)
    Credit Card: £2700
    Emergency Fund: £1000/£1000
    Savings: £70
    Baby Fund: £0

Next month I hope to start making a serious dent in the cc and also to try and start building the baby fund. I know the most mse thing to do would be to throw everything at the debt but some things are more important. Saying that, I refuse to be in debt when we start a family.

    Feb Goals:
    • Work out CC plan - done
    • Move in/ order blinds & sofa - done
    • Get under 12st 7 - unknown - I was at 12st 8 last week but mum has the scales!

    March Goals:
    • Get to 12st
    • Spend nothing on the credit card
    • Sort out the bay window (needs a special pole for curtains)

Feels so weird to say March! This year is going so fast. We've booked a holiday for September (5 nights in Majorca ). It will be pretty cheap and cheerful but I look forward to it so much I wasn't prepared to miss it. The balance is due before July so I'll build this into my budget. After all the house bits I figure we'll need a break!

If you find it the most motivating to build up savings at the same time then go for it. I don't think there's a one size fits all in terms of money.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, but yay for starting to get better. I think a lot of people have been feeling pretty bad recently.

I want more details on your house :o I'm living my house buying dream through you.

    Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the delayed monthly summary but I had an exam yesterday so I imposed an MSE ban to keep me focused. It was worth it though - I passed! :j It was E3 for those CIMAy people out there, next up is F3. I'll be at college pretty much every Saturday until June but it'll be all worth it in the end. To celebrate I had a starbucks (oh the little things) and a takeaway with OH later on.

House wise, things are coming along nicely. We still don't have a bay window pole but other bits are progressing. I sat out in the garden revising on Thursday and it was beautiful. Lovely and quiet with just the birds singing and the sun beaming down.

Money. Well. I decided to get a personal loan to pay off the CC and pay for some house bits. The loan was £7k at 3.9% so a lot cheaper than the credit card, it also allows for unlimited overpayments so as long as I'm sensible long term plans shouldn't be affected. We've already paid off £500 taking the balance down to £6900 (interest was added upfront). Despite my debt increasing, I feel more in control as we aren't tempted to put anything on the CC when it is clear. I'm still broody but the loan has to be paid first.

    Scores on the doors:

OH Car Loan: Paid (through the loan)
Credit Card: Paid (through the loan)
    Loan: £100/£7000 1%
    Emergency Fund: £300/£1000
    Savings: £4
    Baby Fund: £0

    Aims for April:

    Get loan down to £6k
Start building up Emergency Fund again.

Well done on your exam! Very proud of you and I'm sure you'll pass of the rest as well. :)

The loan sounds like a good idea, just lock the CC away. But I trust you. :rotfl:

    Thanks guys :)

The CC is filed away - only to be used in emergencies.
