Well everyone gets more concessions for children whether they are disabled or not :) can be a tad annoying ;) no couples discounts it's always families.

I'm glad to hear that "some" families have had so much help from the Family fund. If it made their lives better great but it is NOT guaranteed and not all apply.

Disabled Adults normally get the same concesssions as a disabled child if they have a carer i.e. the carer gets in free.

Thanks mystery woman.

From the first link for LHA report it includeds stats relating to
"Disabled group includes HB awards with a Disability Premium or Severe Disability Premium, or those passported to full HB by an award of ESA or IS with a Disability" It would have been helpful if they included a similar stat in the second one.

The following statement could be interepreted in different ways.

If disability is defined as having any long-standing illness, disability or infirmity that leads to a significant difficulty with one or more areas of the individual’s life, the equivalent figures to those in the table above would be that 370,000 (56%) of working age social rented sector HB claimants or their partners affected by the size criteria would be classified as disabled, compared to 48% of all working age social rented sector HB claimants or their partners and 58% of all social rented sector HB claimants or their partners.

I'm glad you've reposted that because, as I said earlier, it doesn't in any way equate to saying that the the person involved is severely disabled.

Mine too. She was as sharp as a nail, but couldn't walk, so when I wheeled her into a shoe shop, and she'd made her request for style and size, I couldn't work out why the salesman, after putting her shoes on, said to me "does that feel comfortable, do you think?" :rotfl:

xx

When I was ill many years ago, I got used to people talking to my husband instead of me.

The two memorable ones are:

The social worker who leaned into our car window from my side, looked across to my husband and asked him how I was!

The time I needed antibiotics after a nasty tooth removal and the dentist walked me to the waiting room, gave the prescription to my husband and explained all the after care to him as you would with a toddler!

Luckily for them, I was too ill to argue at the time - they wouldn't want to try now! :rotfl:

It's not difficult to claim.

I'm not exaggerating when I say parents receive a lot of money for disabled children - they really aren't in poverty! On top of that, they get concessions galore if they go anywhere.

.
I have often found that "some" parents get everything handed to them on a platter whilst other parents get sod all.The same goes for respite care and education. Those who shout the loudest springs to mind.

Thats quick for a NHS electric wheelchair assessment, mine was rushed through because I had a cast on one hand the other was so swollen from my RA I couldnt move it and it still took three months to do the three part assessment. For my area the first part is eligability for a chair (where most people fail), then home accessability because you can only get an electric if you need a wheelchair indoors and outdoors and finally you have to prove you are compitant to use a electric wheelchair (eyes, no fits etc)

In some areas they just allocate a electric chair, I wouldnt accept that, I always go to the disabled services center so I can try whats availalble to make sure I get the best for me.

You are entitled to keep the manual chair too, sometimes you cant transport the elctric wheelchair so you still need the manual.

It's just in the planning atm hon. OT has just sent the referral (well she said he has, last time she said that she went on annual leave) so not holding my breath. She can take a few steps, then the knees dislocate :wall:

I imagine she'll go through all the stages. I remember them doing that with a lady I used to work with who had MS. Unfortunately she never got an outside one, because she couldn't control the joy stick, but it was fun watching her crash. I shouldn't laugh, but she destroyed everything in her path, bless her. But in all fairness, she didn't know whether to laugh or swear herself. Bringing back some good memories thinking of her. Strangely enough, she's now one of my dd's neighbours, must pop in and see her one day :D

Yes, the manual one is handy for throwing in the boot of the car, but the powered one will be handy for her going up town on her own. Instead of needing to get taxis everywhere.

We+Oppose+the+Bedroom+Tax.png

We oppose the #BedroomTax in principle and in detail, for all persons. This policy will cause social upheaval, hardship and make none of the savings it is designed to do. The solution for Britain's housing shortage lies in building more affordable housing. For us, this means 100,000 homes a year for rental through Council or Co-Operative Schemes.

To register our opposition to the #BedroomTax, at 1 pm on 16 March, people opposed to the #BedroomTax will be gathering in city centres in more than 30+ locations throughout the UK to protest against the policy. You can join us by following the links to any one of the #BedroomTax protests below. Note that 4 of the protests below (in blue) will be taking place on the 30 March.

Foster parents, cancer sufferers, carers, disabled persons, single parents and families with a recently bereaved member are some of the groups of people whom this policy hurts the most. The #BedroomTax should not apply to these groups of people and we are calling on the government to delay the policy by at least 1 year while they rethink a way to make the policy much fairer. We believe that if the government give this policy careful appraisal, they will conclude what we have, that it is wholly nonviable.

We think the policy should be wholly scrapped as social renters make five times better use of their space than owner occupiers, and it is unfair to tax bedrooms when 700,000+ houses lie empty.

If you wish to attend a protest, you can add your name to the attendance list by clicking on any of the locations below. If you have any queries you can email BedroomTax@Hotmail.com. The events are non-party political and organisers include people from Labour, Green Party, SNP, STUC, SWP and more.

I'm in two minds about this protest I asked the question on their facebook page as to why it did not incorporate LHA issues as well for disabled people etc. and other groups.

But no answer so far!

On the other hand as I said in another thread given that disability issues get so little publicity it's a platform to get these issues into the mainstream press for once!!

So I'm going with the philosophy of TOGETHER we stand DIVIDED we FALL.

When I said we in this together am sure you laughed at me :(.

But anyway this I believe only puts disabled people in a bad light puts people backs up. Espically that well thought out arguement

"We think the policy should be wholly scrapped as social renters make five times better use of their space than owner occupiers, and it is unfair to tax bedrooms when 700,000+ houses lie empty. "

Yeah and that will reduce the housing benefit bill how ?

Now if they had statistics backing up there claims, included LHA and had a well thought out argument people are more inclined to listen. Having looked on the FB page for the march near me its full of well reasoned arguments. NOT !
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j

The bottom line is that we (the UK) don't have the money to fund this ever growing welfare bill and we never did. The bill for that past error now has to be paid as well as funding the present welfare bill, but our triple A rating has now been downgraded and there should be further cuts in spending.

When you think about it rationally; a country needs those who put into the country and it doesn't need those that take out; so what is the use in welfare claimants complaining about their overly generous benefit payments being reduced? It might just be easier to exercise your EU rights and move to another EU country that has a more generous welfare system than the UK now has; or get a job and fund your own lifestyle; or cut your cloth accordingly.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

gordon brown and tony vlair are the masters of the situation we are in now ( and om definately not a tory!)

employers have systematically lowered wages as the tax credit system made up the defecit.
never before were such a large number of working families entitled to benefits. and the only cuase can be that the wages were so low.
but now everyone on benefit of any kind, for whatever reason, is being hit.

and all because brown and blair wanted to buy votes!
