Lidl: still a 'deep discounter'?

I can also vouch for Lidl bread flour, a bargain at 55p especially as Tesco have just put theirs up to 90p. I find that you just need to know what is a bargain and what isn't with Lidl. My shopping process involves making my list on mysupermarket and printing off all the Tesco prices. I then go to Lidl and buy whatever is cheaper, before going to Tesco to buy the rest. I used to find that I got loads in Lidl, but now I have got even savvier (is that a word?!) I am buying mainly Tesco value stuff, so am finding that actually the value stuff comes in cheaper than many Lidl products.
Its definitely worth checking the Lidl offers (there's a thread on this site) and making your weekly menu/shopping list to include these as often there are big bargains to be had.0 -
Yes I can vouch for that Iwanna, Tesco low fat natural yogurt down to 49p, Lidl still at 55p and Sains at 63p. Definately need to shop around. But Bans (new word) at Lidl are 68pkg and Tesco is 79p. Sains fruit and veg prices are daft. (here anyway).0

Okay ... today's Lidl receipt total was £30.50.
This included:
red giant grapes, bananas, potatoes, organic carrots, parsnips, broccoli, sock onions, 2 bags of braeburn apples, milk, 2 x large organic yoghurt, butter, granola, muesli, ketchup, 2 boxes large free range eggs, pineapple slices, tomato puree, orange squash, 2 x 200g luxury choc bars, 2 x cream soap, 2 x moist loo roll ...
For anyone wondering why meat/protein/fish isn't included ... no, I'm not a veggie - I buy these separately as whoopsies from M&S :-)
Picking similar products (including relevant weight/quantity etc) from mysupermarket.com, here are the comparison costs for the other big supermarkets:
Asda £42.17
Sainsburys £48.24 (until recently, here's where I did most shopping)
Tesco £48.54
Ocado £52.20
Waitrose £53.20
I have only bought one thing from Lidl to date, that I haven't liked, and that was the Linessa light soft cheese - a bit sour/acrid for my taste, but everything else has been great.
Very happy with the savings! :j0 -
Ok here's mine - Lidl 34.03 Asda - 48.58 Sainsburys 51.48 Tesco 50.95 Ocado 67.60 Waitrose 81.15!!
I've never done that before - I can't believe the difference in prices! Even if I accounted for special offers etc I am definitely saving money.0 -
blackbelle.you mention organic strawberry yogurt at Lidl. Was that a brand on offer please or a Lidl own brand ? Have noticed organic Meadow Fresh Cheddar in my local Lidl so wondering if they are expanding the range. TIA x0

Hi Edwardia, just checked and the brand is 'Fresh Meadow'. Bought it last week too, it is delicious. £0.99 per 460g tub and that is the regular price, not on offer. Hth x :-)0 -

WOW the difference between Lidl and Waitrose especially
It is a VERY interesting exercise.0 -
Thanks blackbelle will look out for that as I'm paying 1.39 for 500g ATM :eek:0

Blackbelle- I totally agree with you. We decided to down to sainsburys basics in January. Slowly I have moved more and more to lidl .
Big differences I have found are
Mozzarella -44p lidl/ 69p S basic
Lentils 95p lidl/ cheapest possible equivalent is buying 6x bag at waitrose and is still another 60p.
Individually next cheapest is morrissons but for a small bag another 40p?
I tried to make soup for 120 people last week and researched the costs from every poss supermarket -lidl was 13.70 and the nearest I could have got was over £4 more from morrisons.
Things like proscuitto ham are about 50p more.
I do same now.
B&M to see what is on offer-Lidl main shop after that/sainsburys one a month for some basics -about £28.
I was v happy with B&M today as 3 bagsx 6 disco for £1 and 2l coke zero 69p / allisons bread flour 39p and quite a lot of cheap close dated food.
It is actually amazing how much you can save with a bit of multi shop shopping.0
