    1.7kg herb chicken 3.89. 2 gammon steaks for 1.49
Needing to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans
  • My only input would be that we used to shop in lidl then went back to tesco/asda and found that not only were we spending more esspecially in the fruit and veg areas but it's always quick and easy in lidl. If we go in tesco we spend about an hour in there walking around most of it. Timewise we are 30mins tops in lidl.
Gone back to lidl now for basics and started trying the cereals out again which have all been good so far. Will still get reduced stuff from the other supermarkets and the odd item but the biggest shop is now lidl again.

Yes, the 'compactness' of Lidl was quite refreshing compared to the vast size of the Mr. S that I normally shop in!

I was working from a shopping list in Lidl and was quick to find what I needed ... when normally I struggle to find the things that I need in a new supermarket.

I remember coming across a book on amazon a while ago (though I didn't buy it), something along the lines of 'too many consumer choices are a source of stress in modern-day society', and that book came to mind as I sped through the Lidl aisles with my trolley!

So I agree - quickness and convenience need borne in mind too :D

You hit the nail on the head here, big supermarkets are nothing but hassle when you have too much choice, too much space and too many stuff running around. I much prefer the relatively calm and quiet of our local Aldi/Lidl twins. (and it's cheaper to boot).

I had a good laugh when I saw the Aldi pointed red peppers at 85p, they were bigger longer and juicers (stop that thilthy mind now!) then Mr T's shorter stuff with the 'finest' range at £1.93 :rotfl:
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

  • don't forget to store spring onions in a glass of water on the windowsill NOT in the fridge. On the windowsill they'll keep growing. In the fridge they go soggy

For those that are unsure of the quality of Lidl/Aldi produce, try this simple test...

Buy a pack of Tesco's budget sandwich Chorizo (about £1.50ish?) and then go to Aldi/Lidl with it in hand. Turn the pack over and look at how fatty the slices look, then do the same with the Aldi/Lidl version.

Ditto Tesco air dried ham and Farmfoods serrano ham. I consistently had so much fat on the Tesco one I weighed it, seemed to be much more than the pack claims. Also less fat on the Farmfoods that the Tesco Finest parma ham.

Also look at Tesco Value tinned chopped tomatoes then look at the difference compared to Lidl's cheapest ones (about 31p). Lidls are always better.
I like Lidl for random bits when they are on offer. I like their frozen veggie pizzas, goats cheese, feta, freshly squeezed orange and eggs. The Aussie Merlot from the cimerosa range isn't too bad either!
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.
