I'd recommend a mifi like device as well because as long as the device has wireless, it will work the mifi device with no setup required. Another benefit is that you can place the mifi device where you want so if you get best reception by the window you can leave it there and use it anywhere nearby.
OP - a mifi device is like your home broadband router but instead of connecting to the phoneline, instead it connects to 3G. They're small battery powered devices so all you do is power it up, tell it to connect then you connect your tablet, laptop or similar simply by browsing to the mifi's wireless network, putting the WPA key in and then away you go.
